ACAP WELCOMES FIVE NEW BOARD DIRECTORS

New ACAP Board Members from Left to right: Sheriff Peter Johnson, Bobbie Chasse, Robin Levesque, Bruce Thibeault (not pictured, Jennifer Buckingham)

ACAP Officially welcomed five new Board Members at its Annual Meeting on December 14, 2023. In this edition of the ACAP Weekly Briefing, we introduce you to them.

Peter A. Johnson of Presque Isle took the helm as Aroostook County Sherriff on Sept. 1 when former Sheriff Shawn Gillen retired.

Peter formerly worked in social services. He started his law enforcement career at the Presque Isle Police Department in 2008, serving as a patrol officer and domestic violence detective. He transferred to the Maine Drug Enforcement Agency, then in 2014 joined the sheriff’s office as a patrol deputy. Four years later, he became supervisor of the drug enforcement agency, and last October returned to the sheriff’s office as commander of the patrol division.

Jennifer Buckingham is the owner of TEMPO Employment Services, starting with the company in 1997. She is a graduate of Northern Maine Technical College & Husson College, earning degrees in Business Administration and Accounting and is a certified SPHR (Senior Professional in Human Resources). Jennifer serves on the Aroostook Partnership Board as the current Vice Chair; the Northeastern Workforce Development Board; Governmental Affairs Committee of the Maine State HR Council and NESHRM; Treasurer of the Portage Lakers Snowmobile Club; and Chairperson of the Portage Lake Housing Corporation.

Bobbie Chasse was raised in Madawaska, graduated high school in 2002 and then moved to Connor and graduated from UMPI with her Bachelors in Social Work in 2005. Bobbie has worked at AMHC for most of her career – early on while still in college at the Helpline and adult crisis unit, then moving into Outpatient work with children and families and crisis work. In 2006, she settled into children’s case management, and has been working in this area since. In 2019, she was hired as the Children’s Program Manager in Aroostook (still at AMHC), and has been helping to grow children’s services in our area. Her current role includes helping to supervise the Children’s Behavioral Health Home Program, Home and Community Treatment, Family Visitation, Family Time Coaching, and the contracts AMHC has with MSSM and ACAP.

Robin Levesque lives in Oakfield with her husband of 41-years and their youngest son. She is also the mom of three adult sons. Robin has worked for the past 14 years at the Maine Parent Federation as a Support Coordinator. Maine Parent Federation is our State’s Parent Training Information Center for families who have children with disabilities or special needs. Her work allows her to support, assist and share her own experience with families navigating the system of care – which Robin knows firsthand, having had to care for her youngest son Kyle who has Angelmans Syndrome. Robin has served on various boards and committees, including Green Valley, Inc. and Penobscot Community Collaborative. Currently she serves on the Quality Improvement Council for the State of Maine, Community Housing of Maine, and the Aroostook Community Collaborative – where she also sits on the Steering Committee.

Bruce Thibeault currently serves as the Safety Officer at the Loring Job Corps Center in Limestone. He resides in Caribou, where he is also a 27-year member of the Caribou Fire and Ambulance Department as a Firefighter/EMT. He also serves as an Emergency Planning Committee member for Aroostook Emergency Management Agency. He has served in the United States Marine Corps and is currently a member of the VFW and Legion of the Caribou posts. Bruce’s son attends ACAP at the Caribou Early Care and Education Center. Their family’s involvement with ACAP began when he and his wife participated in the parent meetings for over four years. During that time, he was asked to volunteer for the Parent Policy Council. Earlier in his career he traveled New England as a health and safety representative for a construction company. In 2004 he took a job locally for Dead River Company until the fall of 2017 when he was hired as a safety officer for Loring Job Corps.

ACAP BEGINS NEW "BY THE NUMBERS" REPORT TO REGULARLY INFORM COMMUNITY OF SERVICES RENDERED COUNTY-WIDE

ACAP serves more than 14,000 Aroostook County residents each year - but in what ways and with what services? Throughout 2024, the Agency will regularly share "By the Numbers" reports - like the one above - to show the real-life impact of our collective work to help provide economic and social mobility to the most vulnerable living in our region. The statistics above cover just the month of December 2023. These are statistics that demonstrate how the programs we administer, and more importantly the people on our team, help low-income working households with children, individuals with disabilities, and older Aroostook County residents. These "By the Numbers Reports" will be posted here in the Weekly Briefing and on our social media platforms.
