Regents Approve Parking Lot Improvements

Regents voted unanimously to refurbish a portion of the college parking lot during their meeting on November 16. Regents approved a $528,000 contract with Texas Precision Paving to rebuild the parking lots adjoining the Student Center, Pottery Studio, Building and Building H. The project will include new paving and striping. Board members also approved the tuition rate and waivers to participate in the Financial Aid for Swift Transfer (FAST) program. FAST was created through House Bill 8 that was approved by state lawmakers in the last regular session.

College Hosts First Welding Showdown


ACC hosted the first Gulf Coast Community College Welding Showdown on November 4. The event had 42 students compete from seven colleges including ACC, Houston Community College, Wharton Junior College, College of the Mainland, Western Texas College, Texas State Technical College and Brazosport College.

Applications Being Accepted for Foundation Scholarships

The Foundation Is now seeking applications for more than 50 scholarships available to area graduating high school seniors who wish to attend ACC in the Fall. More than $75,000 is available through the scholarships offered. One simple application makes students eligible for all scholarships. These scholarships may be awarded based on a variety of criteria including student need, GPA and intended major. The deadline to apply is March 1. Apply here.

TNMP Awards Grant to Biotech Program

The Texas New Mexico Power Fund recently awarded Alvin Community College a grant to support its Biotechnology program. The $8,000 grant will go towards purchasing a biosafety cabinet needed for the certificate courses in Biotechnology training. The cabinet is similar to the type of equipment graduates will encounter in the workforce.

First Step Award

The ACC Foundation is now offering a scholarship to those who want to start their college education. The $500 scholarship is for students who are taking college courses for the first time ever. The funds will be available to students enrolling for Spring 2024. Visit the website to apply or learn more.

Día De Muertos

The Art Department celebrated its 10th annual Día de Muertos at the ACC Art building on November 1. The event was open to faculty, staff, students, and the community. The celebration featured a range of activities, including traditional food, lotería games, face painting to transform into "catrinas" and "catrines," and the creation of a traditional Día de Muertos altar.

It's a Wonderful Life: Live Radio Play

The Drama Department will begin performances of It's a Wonderful Life: A Live Radio Play starting on December 2. The play is Joe Landry's adaptation of the classic film being remade as a 1940s radio broadcast. An ensemble cast brings the tale to life, unfolding the story of idealistic George Bailey as he considers ending his life one fateful Christmas Eve. The show will be performed December 2, 7-9 at 7:30 p.m. and then on December 3 at 2:30 p.m.

23rd Foundation Gala

The LVN program was given the Good Neighbor Award from Portfolio Resident Services for offering health and wellness information sessions for independent senior living communities in the region.

Employee Recognition Award

Congratulations to College Store textbook technician Mark Simpson who received the November Employee Recognition Award.

Veterans Day Ceremony

ACC hosted its annual Veterans Day Ceremony on November 9 at the college Memorial Wall.

Christmas Band Concert

The ACC Concert and Community Band will hold a Christmas concert on December 10 at the theatre. The concert is free and open to the public.
