Appalachia consists of many diverse voices of persons with deep roots in the region. 
These individuals are committed to highlighting the steps needed to bring about a just and
inclusive economy and to ensuring more prosperous communities and populations in the region. In the fall of 2021, the Black Appalachian Coalition (BLAC) and the Ohio River 
Valley Institute (ORVI) hosted listening sessions to hear Black Appalachians’ views around infrastructure policies. But the conversations weren’t just focused on Infrastructure. Black Appalachians shared stories about their past and present and thoughts
 about how Appalachia should move forward. For a glimpse into the compelling

Funding Opportunities
This program guarantees loans of up to $40 million for qualified lenders to finance food systems projects, specifically for the start-up or expansion of activities in the middle of the food supply chain. Application Deadline: Until funds are exhausted.
This program offers loans, grants, and loan-grant combinations to facilitate broadband deployment in areas of rural America that currently do not have sufficient access to broadband. Application Deadline:

This program offers grant assistance to rural jobs accelerator partnerships to create and augment high-wage jobs, accelerate the formation of new businesses, support industry clusters, and maximize the use of local productive assets in eligible low-income rural areas. Application Deadline:

This new program offers grants to underserved rural communities to deploy community-scale renewable energy technologies and innovations that reduce climate pollution and increase resilience to the impacts of climate change. The Center on Rural Innovation and Rural Innovation Strategies, Inc. will discuss the technology-driven trends that rural economic development leaders need to understand to develop effective strategies, and share case studies illustrating how rural communities are taking advantage of tech-based economic development to drive entrepreneurship and economic prosperity.
The state outreach meetings for Phase 2 of Opportunity Appalachia are underway! Opportunity Appalachia is supporting projects at the critical development stage when technical assistance is needed most. As with Phase 1, TA teams will work with each community to address identified gaps. The teams will be composed of local, regional, and national TA providers, and could include market research groups, state-wide architectural and engineering firms, regional CDFIs for financial structuring support, specialized consulting groups focused on select industries

The Interagency Working Group on Coal and Power Plant Communities and Economic Revitalization has created a centralized clearinghouse that features billions of dollars in existing federal funding sources. This government-wide list offers easy access to Energy Communities applying to fund infrastructure, environmental remediation, job creation, and community revitalization efforts.
