Hello, and a belated Happy Spring to our members! As the weather warms up, we look forward to giving our members more in-person interactions, learning, and professional growth opportunities.
Keeping with our goal of complying with our Strategic Plan, we are also actively working with our incredible sponsors to deliver engaging content relevant to our members’ real-time needs (a most recent example was our interactive discussion and follow-on social with our friends at Varnum on privacy-related strategies).
Another essential component of our Strategic Plan is community service. Our colleagues at Miller Canfield delivered a helpful session on ways to create and actively participate in pro bono strategies in our communities. We are also putting a greater emphasis on DE&I in all our activities and initiatives.
Be on the lookout for emails and LinkedIn updates promoting our latest events for our in-house community members! Always feel free to contact our Executive Director (Nichole Fisher) and me with any questions, comments, or suggestions for improving our efforts to drive meaningful value for our members!

A Call to Pro Bono Service From Hon. Patricia Perez Fresard
As I begin my tenure as Chief Judge of the Third Circuit Court, I am encouraging each and every member of the Detroit Bar Association to commit to the Pro Bono/Access to Justice One Hour Challenge.
- Volunteer just one hour of your time to perform a Pro Bono Virtual Client consultation, which is advice and counsel only, to be entered into a drawing to win lunch with Judge Fresard. The more hours you volunteer, the more entries you may be able to have. To volunteer for the Pro Bono Virtual Legal Services Clinic, email pcopeland@detroitlawyer.org.
- Volunteer at one of several legal clinics scheduled throughout the Metro Detroit area. Check out the Pro Bono Gateway at https://www.detroitlawyer.org/probono/ for available opportunities.
To those attorneys who currently volunteer for the Virtual Legal Services Clinic or otherwise provide pro bono service, thank you. Pro bono service makes a difference in the lives of individual litigants and society as a whole – it is vital to maintaining accessible and equal justice, which is the core mission of the Third Circuit Court.
