An Exciting Month for CDFIs
October has been a busy and exciting month for CDFIs and ACC members.
From the Appalachian Regional Commission’s (ARC) Annual Conference to the Opportunity Finance Network’s (OFN) Annual Conference, CDFI leaders have been getting back together in person, sharing successes and challenges, and celebrating their hard work over the course of the pandemic. ARC’s conference, titled One Appalachia: Connection & Collaboration, took place on October17-19 in Flintstone, MD and highlighted how the 13 Appalachian states and 423 counties are collaborating to bring ARC’s strategic investments to life. OFN’s event, titled Invest in Change and taking place on October 18-21 in New York, New York, sold out for the first time ever. ACC’s CEO Donna Gambrell attended both gatherings, along with many ACC members.

OFN Panel: CDFIs Investing in Green
|
|
On September 28-29, ACC and CommunityWorks, an ACC member, co-hosted a diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) roundtable in Greenville, SC, where several other ACC members were invited to provide their insights about how they are incorporating DEI into their lending activities.
|
|
Questions that the group addressed included:
- What makes diversity, equity, and inclusion important from a CDFI mission perspective?
- What does meaningful impact in achieving diversity, equity, and inclusion in your portfolio look like?
- What diversity, equity, and inclusion outcomes are you seeking to create, and how do you measure success in this area?
The group is now creating a regional coalition focused on action steps to strengthen our partnership, facilitate additional peer learning and support, and increase lending in historically underserved communities in Appalachia.
Our thanks to Latorrie Geer, CEO of CommunityWorks, her team, and the other CDFI representatives who attended or provided powerful case studies about their borrowers.
