ACC Weekly Announcements November 11, 2020
Pastors, Church Administrators and Secretaries, Bulletin Editors:
These weekly announcements are meant to be a helpful resource, especially for those of you who put your congregations' bulletins together on a weekly basis. If there are ways we could present this information more effectively please don't hesitate to pass on your ideas or give feedback.

Some churches forward the following information and community life announcements to their members using email while others post various events in their weekly bulletin, on their church website, or Facebook page. This and past columns are available on the ACC webpage at atlanticcoastconference.net/ba.
Please let us know if there are additional ways we can assist you as we serve together.

Strengthening Resilience - seminar for pastors & chaplains

Feeling anxious, stressed, angry, tired or fatigued? Feel like you weren’t quite prepared for the stressors and collective trauma of the COVID-19 storm? You aren’t alone. Our resilience reserves are being stretched, but they can be strengthened.  This seminar will focus on two key factors for building resilience – trauma awareness and self-care.  Understanding the impact of stress and trauma on the body/brain, beliefs and behavior and having practical tools for self-regulation and self-care will benefit pastors, their families and the congregations they serve.

Please mark your calendars now for December 4, 2020, and plan to join this online workshop designed specifically for ACC pastors and chaplains. The day workshop will have a morning block, beginning at 9am, a lunch break, and an afternoon block ending at 3:30pm. Elaine Zook Barge will be our facilitator, presenting tools and resources specifically for the challenges that pastors & chaplains have named. There will be input and times of interaction with your existing cluster groups to give attendees opportunity to share with others.

More details will be given in the coming weeks.

For “Voices Together,” Shannon Dycus, Bradley Kauffman, and Katie Graber look at the critical role of intercultural competency in the development of the new hymnal in their essay, “Voices Together #801, ‘I’m gonna eat at the welcome table.'” https://www.mennoniteusa.org/menno-snapshots/voices-together-welcome-table/

When a major league baseball player refused to “take a knee” on Opening Day because he was a Christian, Gulf States Mennonite Conference Moderator Mike Clymer reflected on his own faith and motivation for kneeling. Read his blog, “I kneel,” at https://www.mennoniteusa.org/menno-snapshots/i-kneel/

Advent at Home
"At a moment of time when many of our congregations feel distant, a common practice and resource can bring us together. So churches, consider giving this to everyone in your congregation, not just the families with children!”
