As part of this review process, feedback from Albertans, Indigenous communities and key stakeholders will help the Government of Alberta assess the ongoing relevancy and effectiveness of the existing plan in supporting the long-term vision for economic, social and environmental needs in the region. Public engagement will take place in the fall, beginning with the launch of a survey in mid-September.

Premier Wraps up South Korea Mission | |
Over the course of three days, Premier Kenney and the Alberta delegation met with government and industry leaders representing major South Korean companies like H2KOREA, Posco, Hyundai Engineering and Hyundai Motors, as well as the Korean Atomic Energy Research Institute, the Canadian Chamber of Commerce in Korea and the Korean Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy.

Environment Minister Shares Alberta’s Story | |
Environment and Parks Minister Whitney Issik travelled to Whitehorse, Yukon, to attend the Canadian Council of Ministers of the Environment (CCME) meeting. CCME, being held Aug. 30-31, is a minister-led intergovernmental forum to discuss national and international environmental issues. Minister Issik met with federal, provincial and territorial environment ministers and shared Alberta’s progress and successes in managing climate change, air quality, waste and recycling.

Stronger Construction Rules will Bolster Industry | |
A new prompt payment framework, now in effect, ushers in payment timelines and a dispute resolution process for Alberta’s construction sector.
“Payment practices in Alberta have deteriorated over many years. Accounts receivable frequently in excess of 60 days shifts the burden of project financing to contractors and subcontractors. The new prompt pay provisions will play an essential role in keeping cash flowing through the life of a construction project. Annual release of lien holdbacks will also free up cash much earlier than under the past legislation.” - Nate Glubish, Minister of Service Alberta

Boosters Expand to Kids Aged 5-11 | |
Albertans can soon start booking COVID-19 vaccine boosters for children aged five to 11, based on recommendations from the National Advisory Committee on Immunization and the Alberta Advisory Committee on Immunization.

Tax Relief for Prairie Livestock Producers Facing the Impacts of Extreme Weather
To provide assurance for producers as they make difficult herd management decisions, the Minister of Agriculture and Agri-Food, the Honourable Marie-Claude Bibeau, announced an initial list of designated regions in Alberta, Saskatchewan and Manitoba where Livestock Tax Deferral has been authorized for 2022 due to extreme weather conditions. Under the Livestock Tax Deferral, to defer income, the breeding herd must have been reduced by at least 15%.

Government of Canada and Alberta are putting patients first with new research investment | |
The Honourable Randy Boissonnault, Minister of Tourism and Associate Minister of Finance, announced, on behalf of the Honourable Jean-Yves Duclos, Minister of Health, a joint investment of more than $36 million over five years from the Government of Canada, the Government of Alberta, and other provincial partners to continue the work of the Alberta SPOR Support for People and Patient-Oriented Research and Trials (SUPPORT) Unit to connect research with patient needs so that evidence-based solutions can be applied to health care.
