ACC applauds Alberta recovery plan
EDMONTON — Following today's release of the Government of Alberta's recovery plan, Alberta Chambers of Commerce President and CEO Ken Kobly is voicing his support for the initiative.

"Alberta businesses have been dealt a triple whammy, dealing with the simultaneous effects of COVID-19, a historic economic contraction, and record-low oil prices," says Kobly. "The measures announced today will help business operators get back on their feet so they can begin rebuilding our economy."

Today's announcement includes several measures advocated for by the Alberta chambers network, including:
  • moving the general business tax rate from 10 per cent to 8 per cent on July 1—an important step to making Alberta the most competitive jurisdiction in Canada;
  • creating 7,400 jobs by moving forward with Keystone XL Pipeline construction;
  • accelerating natural gas and petrochemical development;
  • increasing and accelerating municipal and provincial capital infrastructure funding;
  • investment in apprenticeship and experiential job placements;
  • attracting foreign talent and investment in technology and innovation; and
  • amending the Alberta Labour Relations Code to further cut red tape.

"Alberta's entrepreneurs have long driven our economy, and it will be these hard-working Albertans who now help to regenerate and rebuild our province," says Kobly. "It's vital that Alberta's business community has the government's full support. I'm pleased to see this announcement as a show of that support."
