Reforming AHS to improve patient care

Albertans experiencing a health-care emergency are currently waiting too long for Alberta’s highly trained and professional paramedics and EMTs to arrive to transport them to hospital. Albertans’ concerns are not about the quality of care they receive, but the length of time it takes to receive that care. To be sure that Albertans have better access to mobile emergency medical care, Dr. Cowell will work to accomplish four main things:

  • Fast-track ambulance transfers at emergency rooms so paramedics are available for more calls.
  • Use more appropriate modes of transportation for non-emergency inter-facility transfers.
  • Empower EMS dispatch to step-down calls from 911 to Health Link based on patient need.
  • Empower paramedics to triage whether or not a patient needs to be transferred to an ER by ambulance.

Funding boost cuts industrial emissions

Alberta has a strong role to play in reducing emissions through technology and innovation. By working with Emissions Reduction Alberta, the province is making up to $50 million from the TIER fund available for the new Industrial Transformation Challenge. This call for proposals, announced at COP27, looks at clean opportunities like mineral and metal extraction, electrification and managing methane emissions.

REMINDER: CWF WEBINAR | The Debate over Right to Repair in Agriculture

Farm equipment breakdown during Canada’s short planting and harvest seasons is literally a make-or-break issue for farmers. Gone are the days when a farmer could pick up a toolbox, complete a quick repair and get back to the harvest. Modern digital technologies and common industry practice mean farmers are being denied access to the parts, tools (including software) and information needed to make the fix. Instead, they are reliant on dealer technicians that have exclusive access to repair software – causing costly delays and repair bills.

Farmers seek right to repair equipment.

Expanding mental health, learning supports for schools

Positive mental health is a critical component of academic success. As part of Alberta’s recovery-oriented system of mental health and addiction care, it is essential that student mental health is supported. To enhance existing efforts, Alberta Education is doubling the funding previously announced to support mental health pilots in schools to $40 million.

G20 Summit in Bali, Indonesia Concludes

The Prime Minister, Justin Trudeau, today concluded his participation at the G20 Summit in Bali, Indonesia, where he worked with G20 leaders to drive progress on shared priorities, including ensuring energy and food security, improving global health, protecting the environment and fighting climate change, and building an economy that works for all Canadians. He also continued to condemn – in the strongest possible terms – Russia’s brutal and unjustifiable invasion of Ukraine, and reiterated Canada’s steadfast support for the Ukrainian people.

at the G20 Summit in Bali, Indonesia, the Prime Minister, Justin Trudeau, announced that Canada will provide $500 million in additional military assistance for Ukraine, to assist the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
