Provincial Police to Alberta Pension Plan: How might it impact your business?

In 2019 and 2020, the Alberta government engaged with Albertans to get input on how best to define and secure a “fair deal” for Alberta.

With many of the recommendations still being considered by the Province, we are engaging the business community again to better understand their perspectives on these issues today.

Thank you for taking 1-2 minutes to share your insights, helping the ACC network advocate on behalf of Alberta’s business community. This survey closes November 27th, and we will share the results via the Alberta Perspectives Hub.

Partnering to Provide Childcare and Keep Parents Working

Research suggests that when parents are able to access affordable quality child care services, they are more likely to successfully engage or re-engage in the labour market and elevate their workplace productivity. Employers who believe that child care is not only a family issue but a business issue will undoubtedly create a competitive advantage for themselves and attract high-quality employees.

This proposed initiative addresses child care needs and assists employers in elevating their workforce. It is an innovative model that is positioned to be a collaboration of expertise from both the child care realm and the employer and/or business community.

Proposed expanded federal firearms ban: Minister Shandro

“On Nov. 22, through last-minute amendments to Bill C-21, the federal government moved to ban hundreds of new models of legally owned rifles and shotguns.

The amendments target more than two million licensed Canadian firearms owners, including hunters, farmers and target shooters who collectively own hundreds of thousands of firearms that could soon be prohibited."

Survey launched to strengthen homebuyer protections

Albertans are invited to provide feedback on the province’s protections for buyers of new homes through an online survey.

Purchasing a home is something many Albertans spend years – even decades – planning and saving for. It often fulfils a lifelong dream or starts a family legacy. However, without the assurance that the quality of their investment will last, a dream home can quickly turn into a nightmare, costing homeowners thousands for home repair and replacements. That’s why Alberta’s government wants feedback from new homebuyers and builders. The survey ends on December 22.

Venture capital investment: Minister Glubish

Minister of Technology and Innovation Nate Glubish issued the following statement in response to the Canadian Venture Capital and Private Equity Association’s third-quarter report:

“It’s an exciting time to be in Alberta. Venture capital investment in the province continues to skyrocket as companies of all sizes push the limits of what is possible, bolstering our reputation as a world leader in technology and innovation.

During the third quarter of 2022, Alberta’s tech sector contributed to what is gearing up to be the largest expansion in our province’s history. For the third year in a row, Alberta is on-pace to shatter our venture capital investment record with 75 deals done worth $509 million so far this year after a total of $561 million in the entire year before."
