An Introduction to Understanding Indigenous Perspectives in Canada - Free Course

BMO, together with First Nations University of Canada, is marking this year’s National Day for Truth and Reconciliation by providing an interactive eLearning initiative, nisitohtamowin ᓂᓯᑐᐦᑕᒧᐃᐧᐣ(pronounced: nis-toh-tum-win), free to the public for the next three years.

ACC President & CEO, Shauna Feth appointed to the Alberta Career Education Task Force

Feth, who also co-chairs the ACC-APSN Talent Development Task Force will sit on the Alberta Government Career Education Task Force this fall to explore opportunities to help students enter chosen career fields sooner and strengthen Alberta’s skilled workforce.

Expanding access to broadband funding

The Alberta Broadband Fund (ABF) will expand access to financial support for rural broadband to ensure that all Albertans have access to reliable, high-speed internet. The ABF is a made-in-Alberta solution that will complement the Universal Broadband Fund (UBF) to help the province reach its goal of 100 percent connectivity by 2026-27 by providing a funding pathway for broadband projects that did not apply to or qualify for the UBF.

New teacher code of conduct engagement

Albertans can help modernize and harmonize standards to better serve the interests of students, the public and the teaching profession. Alberta’s government is asking Albertans for input to help develop a single code of professional conduct for all teachers and teacher leaders regardless of where they are employed.

Complete the survey by October 7.

Outstanding newcomers honoured

The Alberta Newcomer Recognition Awards launched in June to celebrate the invaluable contributions immigrants make to the province’s neighbourhoods, economies, professions and communities. Recipients include youth, women, seniors, entrepreneurs, academics, professionals and community builders who have made a difference in their schools, workplaces, neighbourhoods and volunteer organizations.

Government of Alberta supporting Pakistan after severe flooding

The Alberta government will match dollar for dollar every donation Albertans and Alberta organizations make to the Canadian Red Cross, up to a maximum $500,000. The funds will help the Canadian Red Cross provide supports to millions of people in Pakistan where floods, flash floods and landslides have affected more than 30 million people, killed more than 1,200 people and left thousands injured and homeless.

Streamlining natural gas project approvals: Associate Minister Nally

Associate Minister of Natural Gas and Electricity Dale Nally is calling on the federal government to streamline natural gas export project approvals in Canada:

“The world is facing a long-term energy crisis and Alberta has the natural gas resources to help heat homes and businesses abroad while also reducing global emissions.“

Grant call to modernize continuing care homes

Eligible operators can apply for a one-time grant through the Continuing Care Capital Program to replace, upgrade or renovate existing aged continuing care homes. Alberta Health is accepting project proposals through the program’s modernization stream to align continuing care spaces with modern standards.

CBSA reopens Alberta airports - ACC advocacy at work

Customs services are resuming at some smaller regional airports in Alberta after being suspended during the COVID-19 pandemic.

In a statement Friday, the Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) said officers would resume providing services at the Cooking Lake, Milk River, Ponoka, and Villeneuve airports after being paused since May 2020.

The Alberta Chambers of Commerce is a federation of 116 community-based chambers of commerce representing more than 22,500 job creators.
