Calgary’s Local Access Fees Reduced by 30%
Minister Nathan Neudorf announced a 30% reduction in Calgary’s local access fees, saving residents over $36 million next year. This follows new legislation standardizing fees and preventing variable rates, which had previously raised costs for Albertans. Alberta Chambers of Commerce has long advocated for businesses on franchise fee issues. Recent changes are a positive first step in addressing concerns over variable rate calculations. Additionally, AUC Rule 029, effective September 12, 2024, ensures customers are notified of new franchise agreements, with a two-week window to raise concerns. We encourage members to monitor municipal agendas and engage in discussions on franchise fees.
