Community Policing Grant applications open

Indigenous and municipal communities in Alberta can now apply for a one-time grant of up to $30,000 to develop a business case for their own self-administered police service or regional equivalent. Eligible First Nations communities, Metis Settlements and municipalities may use Community Policing Grant funding for business case expenses such as staffing, consultation fees and program administration.

Expanding surgery access in central & southern Alberta

As part of the Alberta Surgical Initiative, Alberta Health Services (AHS) aims to schedule an additional 1,350 surgeries in the central zone and about 1,250 more procedures in the south zone, ranging from hip and knee to general surgeries, by inviting chartered surgical facilities to submit proposals.

Addressing the skill needs of tomorrow

The Premier’s Council on Skills will ensure students learn the skills they need to secure Alberta’s future. The council, comprised of 11 key industry stakeholders, will help Alberta’s government better understand the challenges, opportunities and changing needs of Alberta’s workforce.

Statement on Hydrogen blending: Associate Minister Nally

“In the coming months, we’ll work with stakeholders to continue developing a hydrogen blending framework that provides certainty to investors and supports a cost-effective system for Albertans. In addition, we will work to clarify different organizations’ responsibilities in regulating the various parts of a hydrogen blending market. Funding research in cancer prevention and care

New funding will support and encourage cancer prevention, screening and care initiatives to improve health outcomes for Albertans.

The Cancer Research for Screening and Prevention (CRSP) grant program will help build capacity and excellence in cancer research, collaboration and innovation. Three-year grants of up to $1 million each will fund research, education and initiatives that promote cancer prevention, early detection and screening and improve the journey of care for cancer patients and their families.

Energy Minister completes successful Norway mission

Minister Savage was part of a Canadian delegation that met with senior leaders, researchers and industry at the three-day Offshore Northern Seas (ONS) Conference in Stavanger, Norway. From Aug. 29 to Sept. 1, the minister promoted Alberta’s energy supply and services capability and technologies, all of which will be critical to meeting future emissions targets around the globe.

Minister Savage also spoke at the Net Zero Market session exploring carbon capture, utilization and storage (CCUS). Alberta is a global leader in carbon capture technologies, with many jurisdictions seeking to learn from the province’s experience and expertise.

 News Release: Standing up for Alberta’s economic interests

Alberta is intervening in a constitutional challenge of federal legislation that has unilaterally labelled plastic as a “toxic substance.”

The provincial attorney general has filed notice with the Federal Court of Canada that Alberta will make submissions in a case arguing that a decision by the federal minister of health and the minister of the environment and climate change to list “plastic manufactured items” as “toxic substances” under the Canadian Environmental Protection Act was unconstitutional.

Statement from Minister Champagne on Canada’s Telecommunications Reliability Agenda following Rogers’ outage on July 8, 2022

“On July 11, in the days following the massive Rogers network outage, I convened a meeting with the CEOs of Rogers and the other major wireless telecommunications companies.

“As of September 9th, should one of these providers be faced with a major network outage, the other companies have committed to provide the support and assistance necessary so that Canadians can reach loved ones, access 911, and conduct business transactions.
