Thank you to all of our neighbors who have donated food at the pantry, organized collection drives, and donated cash to allow us to help needy families in the Annandale / Bailey's Crossroads area. Your generosity and kindness is the bright spot in this unprecedented time. We were also fortunate to receive a grant from Fairfax County which will enable us to continue to provide assistance directly to those who have been affected economically by the global pandemic. Local churches and neighborhood groups are working hard to keep the shelves stocked. Our community partners including the Rotary, Knights of Columbus, Capital Area Food Bank, and the St. Lucy project continue to support ACCA.

In April, ACCA served 638% more clients with food and provided 1145% more emergency assistance funds than in May 2019.

Child Development Center News The ACCA Child Development Center closed for 3 days in March in order to prepare to implement the guidelines necessary for a safe re-opening on March 19. The CDC now provides care for approximately 40 children of essential and emergency personnel.

Food Pantry Collections at ACCA and Two Other Locations Because of the increased need for emergency food supplies, we will continue to collect donations on Saturday mornings from 9 am. – noon through May 23 at the food pantry located at 7200 Columbia Pike (trailer separate from the day care center) in Annandale. Weekday food collections will take place from 1 – 5 p.m. Pantry volunteers are following social distancing guidelines while volunteering at the pantry and we encourage visitors to keep the health and safety of our volunteers in mind while donating.  These are the most-needed items right now. The countywide Stuff the Bus food drive this month will also benefit the food pantry. On Saturday, May 16 and Tuesday, May 19, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., Fastran buses will be parked at Mason Government Center and Woodrow Wilson Library to collect food donations for ACCA. Face Masks to Support Refugee Families Lutheran Social Services of the National Capital Area is connecting refugee seamstresses with the Northern Virginia community. Support local refugee women and families during these difficult times by purchasing homemade face masks. Masks are $8/each (cash preferred), with optional tip, and 100% of the profits go directly to the seamstress who made the masks. Contact-less pick-up and delivery of finished masks is available, and orders are generally completed within 1-2 days. Ministries Updates for April

Food Ministry - 61 deliveries were made to families consisting of 982 people. We were also able to provide 70 families with gift cards. Family Emergency Assistance - $185,000 in assistance was provided to 511 clients. Rebuilding Together .- has been postponed until the fall. Transportation - The ACCA-Shepherd's Center joint transportation program provided 63 rides. CROP Walk - will be rescheduled. Homework Club - has been postponed due to the school closures. . Furniture Ministry - is on hold during the current shutdown.

ACCA remains committed to the challenge of Jesus, as described in Matthew 25:40: “Whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me.”
