Enrollment Next Steps
More than 500 rising juniors and seniors applied for the Atlanta College and Career Academy (ACCA), a new Atlanta Public Schools program that will help students graduate with credentials aligned to high-demand technical careers via 14 career pathways. Applications are currently under review. Students will then be placed in a lottery to fill seats and will be notified of their program acceptance by the end of the academic year. Career Spotlight: Carpentry
Carpenters construct, erect, install, and repair structures and fixtures made from wood and other materials. Carpenter duties include:
  • Following blueprints and building plans to meet the needs of clients
  • Installing structures and fixtures
  • Constructing and building frameworks (walls, floors, etc.)
  • Inspecting and replacing damaged framework, structures and fixtures
Employment of carpenters is projected to grow 8 percent from 2018 to 2028, faster than the average for all occupations. Increased levels of new home building and remodeling activities will require more carpenters.
Trade Talks: Construction
The Georgia Department of Career, Technical, and Agricultural Education in partnership with leading industry experts, launched Trade Talks, a face-to-face career-focused professional learning platform for school counselors. Trade Talks takes the format of a lunch and learn. Industry experts provide relevant career information to school counselors. ACCA Board Chair Mike Kenig helped facilitate the Jan. 22 session focused on the field of construction. Attendees learned about education pathways, salaries, and industry partnerships.
ACCA Phase II Updates

ACCA will continue to promote dual enrollment opportunities at Atlanta Technical College. Students must meet admission requirements for Atlanta Technical College to participate. See your counselor for more information.
