If you are able to make it to the event, please drop by our booth #S174A and say hello. We would appreciate the opportunity to share news and learn more about how we can help you successfully complete your upcoming projects.
The Inflation Reduction Act of 2022 Signed into Law

The Inflation Reduction Act (IRA) of 2022, signed into law this month by President Biden, directs the Secretary of Energy to make the electric grid more robust and resilient by improving inter-regional electricity transmission and effectively integrating electricity generated by offshore wind into the onshore transmission grid.

“Advanced Conductors, like the ACCC® Conductor, will be part of that efficient, flexible, and modernized grid delivering clean electricity to consumers throughout the U.S.,” noted CTC Global Corporation’s CEO, J.D. Sitton. “CTC continues to encourage utilities, developers, state and local communities to focus on getting more from the existing electric grid. Advanced Conductors can help do that.”
CTC Global Participated in two Important Webinars

CTC Global’s Director of Public Policy, Mr. David Townley, participated in two important webinars this month. The first was with the MISO Environmental Sector and the Great Plains Institute. The second was with the Midwestern Governor's Association.

Both webinars explored Advanced Conductors: What they are; how their innovative technology enables higher performance versus legacy conductors; and what are barriers to their broader implementation.

Each webinar provided a brief presentation of Advanced Conductor technology, applications, and performance - followed by a discussion session that explored some of the policy opportunities that could increase the adoption of Advanced Conductors and the resulting benefits for consumers, the environment, and sustainability goals.
ANDE Completes New ACCC® Conductor Transmission Line Projects in Paraguay

With support from EPC Tecnoedil S.A. and Contractor CIE S.A., Ande completed their new 220 kV double circuit Villa Hayes - Pto. Botánico - Parque Caballero substation transmission links in Asuncion, Paraguay. Ande selected ‘three layer’ Stockholm size ACCC® Conductor manufactured by Lamifil. Lamifil’s ‘three layer’ Stockholm design allows longer reel lengths which helped accommodate the 9.5 kilometer and 4.2 kilometer projects that included a 700 meter span over the Paraguay river to the Jardin Botanico Substation.

New lattice structures accommodated ~90 kilometers of ACCC® Conductor with averages spans of ~300 meters. ACCC® Hardware for the project was supplied by Forjasul. CIE S.A. used Tesmec tensioners and TEMA pullers with Chicago grips. CTC Global Master Installers Edirlei Zacharias and Ismael Dones provided installation training and support.

Asuncion, Paraguay is the home of CTC Global’s newest ACCC® Core manufacturing facility in South America. It is also the country’s largest city and Capital.
CTC Global Takes Customer Service
to the Next Level

For nearly 20 years, CTC Global has been highly focused on supporting our customers in every way possible. We provide design and engineering support, the highest quality products, industry leading quality assurance and testing in our ISO/IEC certified lab, field services and much more.

In 2003, CTC met with our major local utility, Southern California Edison (SCE), to discuss Advanced Conductor performance goals and test protocols. Over a period of several months, we worked together to discuss our progress and test results and eventually won our first project with SCE. As SCE has begun to deploy ACCC® Conductor on a much broader basis - to help deliver more clean and reliable energy to its more than 15 million customers in its 50,000 square mile service territory - CTC Global is rising to the challenge.

Over the course of the last several weeks, members of CTC Global’s Engineering, Field Service and Management Teams have been meeting with a wide variety of SCE’s staff members to discuss the substantial benefits of the ACCC® Conductor compared to legacy steel reinforced conductors. A series of these ‘deep dive’ sessions were led by CTC Global’s Director of Conductor Materials Research, Dr. Eric Bosze, who also leads CTC Global’s Application Engineering Department.

Topics covered included: ACCC®, ACCC® ULS and ACCC® AZR Conductor differences; PLS CADD design considerations including thermal, wind and ice load sag and blow out; stress strain characteristics; pre-tensioning; and many other design topics. Other sessions discussed installation topics such as stringing methods; proper handling; ACCC® Hardware and the ACCC InfoCore® System.

CTC Global’s Engineering Team also demonstrated how to use CTC Global’s Conductor Comparison Software (CCP™) – which anyone can access anytime through CTC Global’s website – at no cost. The sessions included a number of SCE visits to CTC Global’s ISO 9001-2015 Certified manufacturing facility in Southern California where SCE’s personnel could learn more about CTC Global’s manufacturing process and quality assurance program, tour CTC Global’s ISO/IEC 17025 Certified Labs and witness testing of core material manufactured specifically for SCE projects.

If this is something you or your team might also be interested in, please let us know. We welcome visits from all of our current and future customers and manufacturing partners. Please email: [email protected]

Check out the September Issue of
T&D World Magazine

You will find a magnificent article written by Elia's Jean-Francois Goffinet: "Elia Tackles Grid Reliability Through New Technology" In the September issue of T&D World Magazine. The article shares many details about Elia's use of Advanced Conductors - and ACCC® Conductor in particular - as well as their experience with the ACCC InfoCore® System. Its a very insightful article that you won't want to miss.
ACCC® Conductor is currently reducing CO2 emissions by over 4.25 million metric tons every year - the equivalent of removing over 900,000 cars from the road
ACCC® ULS Conductor Offers Added Strength and Reduced Sag

First deployed on a 1.4 kilometer lake crossing in Africa in 2013, The ACCC® ULS Conductor offers greater strength, a lower coefficient of thermal expansion and higher modulus of elasticity than the standard ACCC® Conductor core. The added strength and lighter weight can enable longer spans and the higher modulus and increased stiffness reduces sag and blow out during high wind conditions. Improved stiffness can also reduce sag under heavy ice load conditions.

Dozens of engineers have specified ACCC® ULS Conductor for projects, worldwide, and the ULS version of the ACCC® Conductor has served our clients well. The ACCC® ULS Conductor is available in many sizes and offers transmission engineers added design flexibility.

The ACCC® ULS Conductor can be ordered with Type 1350-O fully annealed aluminum or as an AZR version with Aluminum-Zirconium thermal resistant alloy for even higher overall conductor strength.

ACCC AZR Conductor – Expanding the Capabilities of the ACCC® Conductor Using Aluminum Zirconium Alloy to Combat Extreme Ice Loads

ACCC® AZR Conductor uses either the standard 310 ksi core or the higher strength 375 ksi core that is then wrapped with one or more layers of a high strength, thermal resistant aluminum-zirconium alloy. While conventional ACCC® Conductors typically use fully annealed aluminum to maximize conductivity, the ACCC AZR Conductor offers nearly the same efficiency, but far greater overall strength. The added strength and increased tensile modulus mitigates conductor sag under heavy wind or ice loads, or very long spans. To learn more visit www.ctcglobal.com
