National Electric Power Company Selects ACCC® Conductor for Transmission Line Upgrades in Jordan

With the support of Energoprojekt ENTEL, ARCC Arabian Romanian Electromechanical and Transrail Lighting Ltd, the National Electric Power Company of Jordan began a series of reconductor projects to increase the efficiency, capacity and reliability of their 132 kV system. Thus far, three out of ~ten projects have been completed with 546.4 mm2 Hamburg size ACCC Conductor supplied by Midal Cable which replaced existing AAAC conductor. Hardware for the project was supplied by Preformed Line Products (PLP).

NEPCO operates the bulk power network in Jordan, which is composed principally of 400 and 132 kV circuits. The transmission system is structured on the north-south axis of Jordan. It is essentially a radial system with no looping except for a small ring around the main load center of Amman. There are approximately 3,200 circuit kilometers of transmission lines currently operated at 132 kV, which represents about 77% of the total network. Additionally, there are over 900 circuit kilometers of 400 kV transmission lines. NEPCO also operates the main substations to provide services to the various distribution networks, which have an aggregate capacity of about 10,303 MVA.
Taiwan Power Company Deploys ACCC® Conductor

After an extensive technical review, Taiwan Power Company began their Zhonggang to Zhangyi ACCC® Reconductor Project. Taipower selected 367.4 mm2 Amsterdam size ACCC Conductor to increase line capacity and mitigate thermal conductor sag on this double bundled, double circuit 161 kV transmission line. The line’s added capacity will help Taipower deliver cleaner and more reliable sources of electric energy to a portion of the nearly 23 million people they serve in Taiwan.

Taipower’s first ACCC Reconductor project, being performed by Baocheng Construction (and supported by CTC Global’s local agent GNP and ACCC Master Installers), will use over 170 kilometers of ACCC Conductor supplied by Taihan Electric Wire. Two additional ACCC Reconductor projects are also slated to begin in early 2021.

For decades, Taipower has provided electricity to support both the public's quality of life and the island's economic development.
Introducing CTC Global’s Newest ACCC® Master Installer - William Allen

Congratulations to William Allen for becoming CTC Global's newest Master Installer. William began his carrier with CTC Global in 2012 as a production “lineman.” He was promoted to Production Supervisor and completed a Lineman Training Program in 2019. In January 2020 he was promoted to CTC’s Field Service Team and after nearly 200 days supporting various projects for Southern California Edison, he was certified as an ACCC® Master Installer.

William's drive, dedication and spirit exemplify CTC Global's team, as we all do our very best to excel and exceed our customer's expectations, even during challenging circumstances. Thank you and congratulations William!

CTC Global & Staff Support Children's Hospital of Orange County During Annual Fundraiser Event

Every year during the holiday season, CTC Global's staff holds a fundraiser event for a local charity. This year, with a matching donation from our company, we raised several thousand dollars for the Children’s Hospital of Orange County.

CHOC is a nonprofit hospital that depends on the support of its community. Donations help CHOC continue to nurture, advance and protect the health and well-being of children by providing their patients with the highest quality medical treatment and offering support to their families regardless of their ability to pay. Thanks to Yolanda Houseal, CTC Global's Office Manager & Executive Assistant for coordinating this effort.
ACCC® ULS Conductor Offers Added Strength and Reduced Sag

First deployed on a 1.4 kilometer lake crossing in Africa in 2013, The ACCC ULS Conductor offers greater strength, a lower coefficient of thermal expansion and higher modulus of elasticity than the standard ACCC Conductor core. The ULS version has a higher carbon fiber content raising the tensile strength from 310 to 375 ksi (Compare this to 285 ksi high-strength steel). While the added strength and lighter weight can enable longer spans, the higher modulus and increased stiffness reduce sag and blow out during high wind conditions. Improved stiffness can also reduce sag under heavy ice load conditions.

The higher carbon fiber content also reduces the coefficient of thermal expansion from 1.6 x 10-6 /°C to 0.75 x 10-6 /°C. While dozens of engineers have specified ACCC ULS Conductor for projects, worldwide, the ULS version of the ACCC Conductor has served our clients well. The ACCC ULS Conductor is available in many sizes and offers transmission engineers added design flexibility.

The ACCC ULS Conductor can be ordered with Type 1350-O fully annealed aluminum or as an AZR version with Aluminum-Zirconium thermal resistant alloy for even higher overall conductor strength.
ACCC AZR Conductor – Expanding the Capabilities of the ACCC® Conductor Using Aluminum Zirconium Alloy

ACCC® AZR Conductor uses either the standard 310 ksi core or the higher strength 375 ksi core that is then wrapped with one or more layers of a high strength, thermal resistant aluminum-zirconium alloy. While conventional ACCC Conductors typically use fully annealed aluminum to maximize conductivity, the ACCC AZR Conductor offers nearly the same efficiency, but far greater overall strength. The added strength and increased tensile modulus mitigates conductor sag under heavy wind or ice loads, or very long spans. To learn more visit www.ctcglobal.com
Did You Know:

The ACCC® Conductor Core is the only carbon fiber conductor core in the world that meets the internationally recognized ASTM B-987 Standard, "Standard Specification for Carbon Fiber Thermoset Polymer Matrix Composite Core (CFC) for use in Overhead Electrical Conductors."

ASTM B-987 / B-987M - 20 can be found on ASTM's website at https://www.astm.org/Standards/B987.htm
ACCC Conductor is currently reducing CO2 emissions by over 2.6 million metric tons every year - the equivalent of removing over 600,000 cars from the road
CTC Global's Free Conductor Comparison Program CCP™ Software is Available Online

CTC Global is pleased to announce that our highly regarded Conductor Comparison Program (CCP™) software is now available online. The new web-based version has all the features found in the Excel version, which has been replaced and will no longer be supported. The new version is designed to make it easier to use, and it also has some new features. Having CCP online will make it easier to keep it up-to-date with new wire files and other data, and to add improvements as they are made. Users will always know they have the current version every time they log in. CCP is also compatible with tablets.

Registration to use CCP requires only a valid email address and password. Users may also use CCP as a guest however, saving and export features are only available to registered users.

Thank you for using our CCP. We welcome your feedback. For technical support, please contact [email protected]
