Electric Grids of Tatarstan Completes ACCC® Conductor Upgrade in Russia

With the support of EPC firm SrednevolgskSetElektrostroy, Electric Grids of Tatarstan completed their 110 kV Nignekamskaya CHP 1 – Zavodskaya transmission line upgrade in the Naberegnie Chelny area of Tatarstan, Russia.

ACCC® Conductor for the project was provided by TechEnergoComplekt that was manufactured by CTC Global’s authorized manufacturing partner Lamifil Russia. PLP Belos provided hardware for the Helsinki size ACCC® Conductor. The project was completed and energized with temperatures ranging from -15°C to -28° C with winds averaging 15 meters per second. CTC Global’s Master Installer, Sergey Salkinov provided training and support.

Naberegnie Chelny is the second largest city in the Republic of Tatarstan, Russia. A major industrial center, Naberezhnye Chelny stands on the Kama River 225 kilometers (140 mi) east of Kazan near Nizhnekamsk Reservoir. The city is one of the largest planned centers in the world related to vehicle production. With more than five square kilometres (2 sq mi) dedicated to production, the Kamaz plant is the largest vehicle factory in the world. Naberezhnye Chelny is also a major railway, motor transport, and aviation hub.
PGCB Completes New 400 kV ACCC® Transmission Line in Mirsharai, Bangladesh

With the support of Kalpataru Power Transmission Limited, Power Grid Company of Bangladesh (PGCB) completed their 400 kV BSRM transmission project in Mirsharai, Bangladesh. This new ~16.5 kilometer double circuit transmission line was built to supply power to one of South Asia’s largest economic zones which is under construction. The 30,000 acre Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Shilpanagar Economic Zone is being developed by the Bangladesh Economic Zones Authority.

Currently energized at 230 kV, this line will eventually be raised to 400 kV and connect to the Koreghat Substation which is currently under construction. PGCB selected Dhaka size ACCC® Conductor which spanned approximately 383 meters between steel lattice structures. A 383 meter span was used to cross the Dhaka - Chittagong Highway. Approximately 70 percent of the line crossed through paddy cultivated areas and the balance was through coastal area swamps, making access extremely difficult. Materials and equipment could only be transported by small boats during high tide conditions. Mangrove trees and shrubs exacerbated the handling challenges further. KPTL's crews did a fantastic job of coordinating the delivery and movement of equipment and crews.

Apar Industries Limited supplied the ACCC® Conductor and Dervaux provided ACCC® Hardware. ACCC® Installation support was provided by Master Installer Mr. N.J. Balaji.
Nepal Electricity Authority Completes 2nd ACCC® Reconductor Project

Using Silvassa size ACCC® Conductor manufactured by Apar Industries Limited, Nepal Electric Authority (NEA) completed their 33 kV double circuit Duhabi - Khanar ACCC® Reconductor Project in Biratnagar, Nepal. NEA selected Silvassa size ACCC® Conductor to replace Dog size ACSR conductor to substantially increase line capacity to support growing industrial demand without the need to replace or modify existing steel lattice structures in the densely populated residential area.

The average span length was 130 meters with a few longer spans crossing roads and a canal. ACCC® Hardware was supplied by Sicame India. Mudbhary and Joshi Construction Pvt. Ltd. provided engineering and installation support. CTC Master Installer, Mr. Mukesh Kumar Jha provided ACCC® training and installation support.
ACCC Conductor is currently reducing CO2 emissions by over 3 million metric tons every year - the equivalent of removing over 750,000 cars from the road

ACCC® ULS Conductor Offers Added Strength and Reduced Sag

First deployed on a 1.4 kilometer lake crossing in Africa in 2013, The ACCC® ULS Conductor offers greater strength, a lower coefficient of thermal expansion and higher modulus of elasticity than the standard ACCC Conductor core. The ULS version has a higher carbon fiber content raising the tensile strength from 310 to 375 ksi (Compare this to 285 ksi high-strength steel). While the added strength and lighter weight can enable longer spans, the higher modulus and increased stiffness reduce sag and blow out during high wind conditions. Improved stiffness can also reduce sag under heavy ice load conditions.

The higher carbon fiber content also reduces the coefficient of thermal expansion from 1.6 x 10-6 /°C to 0.75 x 10-6 /°C. While dozens of engineers have specified ACCC ULS Conductor for projects, worldwide, the ULS version of the ACCC Conductor has served our clients well. The ACCC ULS Conductor is available in many sizes and offers transmission engineers added design flexibility.

The ACCC ULS Conductor can be ordered with Type 1350-O fully annealed aluminum or as an AZR version with Aluminum-Zirconium thermal resistant alloy for even higher overall conductor strength.
ACCC AZR Conductor – Expanding the Capabilities of the ACCC® Conductor Using Aluminum Zirconium Alloy

ACCC® AZR Conductor uses either the standard 310 ksi core or the higher strength 375 ksi core that is then wrapped with one or more layers of a high strength, thermal resistant aluminum-zirconium alloy. While conventional ACCC Conductors typically use fully annealed aluminum to maximize conductivity, the ACCC AZR Conductor offers nearly the same efficiency, but far greater overall strength. The added strength and increased tensile modulus mitigates conductor sag under heavy wind or ice loads, or very long spans. To learn more visit www.ctcglobal.com
Did You Know:

The ACCC® Conductor Core is the only carbon fiber conductor core in the world that meets the internationally recognized ASTM B-987 Standard, "Standard Specification for Carbon Fiber Thermoset Polymer Matrix Composite Core (CFC) for use in Overhead Electrical Conductors."
