Quick Update:

There are currently 42 active ACCC® Conductor installations underway and 81 additional ACCC Conductor installations scheduled to start by January, 2021, in addition to more than 800 already completed. Why? Because the ACCC Conductor offers the ability to improve the efficiency, capacity, reliability and resilience of the electric power grid, worldwide, while saving time, money and the environment.

The Case for Energy Efficient Conductors

In 2016, American Electric Power won the Edison Award for Transmission Project of the Year. They replaced two 120 mile long 345 kV circuits of ACSR conductor with ACCC® Conductor with a goal of nearly doubling line capacity without having to rebuild or replace existing structures (to save time, money and environmental impact). The project was completed while the line remained energized. While the primary goals were achieved and the project completed eight months ahead of schedule, the use of ACCC Conductor also reduced line losses by a whopping 30%.

Reduced line losses in this case translates into a 300,000 MWh savings per year (~$15 million @ $50.00 / MWh). It also reduces CO2 emissions by ~200,000 metric tons per year (the equivalent of removing 34,000 cars from the road). This also freed-up 34 MW of generation capacity that was previously wasted.

Though the cost of the conductor was only a small percentage of the overall project cost (which included substation upgrades), the use of ACCC Conductor benefited AEP, their customers and the environment and is also saving over 3.6 million gallons of clean filtered water every year that is used by fossil and nuclear generation plants to produce steam that spins turbine generators. This the amount of clean water consumed by over 68,000 people every year!

As regulators in the U.S. move away from a “risk based” approach to a “consumer benefits” approach when considering ROI’s for transmission investment, the case for deploying modern power line conductors such as ACCC® Conductor has never been stronger. These are the types of benefits our Utilities should consider, present and pursue.
EDP Completes 5th ACCC® Conductor Installation in Portugal

Earlier this month Energias de Portugal (EDP) installed 725 kcmil Amsterdam size ACCC® Conductor on their Gala - Vila Robim 66 kV transmission line very close to the Ocean adjacent to the City of Figuiera de Foz, in north west Portugal. ACCC Conductor was selected for its high strength, improved efficiency, reduced sag and resistance to salt air corrosion.

This project was supported by contractor Tecnerga and Helenos and CTC Global’s Master Installer Ismael Dones offered remote and on-site training. Fux provided the ACCC Conductor and Arruti Spain provided ancillary ACCC Hardware. This project marks EDP’s 5th successful ACCC Conductor installation.
Bihar State Power Completes ACCC® Reconductor Projects in India
Bihar State Power Transmission Company Ltd (BSPTCL) successfully completed three more reconductor projects using ACCC® Casablanca to replace ACSR Panther size conductor, expanding the total amount of ACCC Conductor installed on their system to over 1,000 kilometers. Recently completed projects include reconductoring of the 132 kV Dehri LILO line, the Dehri to Banjari line, and the Dehri to Sonenagar line.

219 kilometers of ACCC Conductor was provided for these projects by Sterlite Power Ltd., who also provided engineering and installation services. The existing lattice structures were used without modification. The average span lengths were ~325 meters with one major highway crossing, two railway crossings and four crossings over the Son River. TAG provided ACCC Hardware. The ACCC Conductor upgrade raised line capacity from ~400 amps to ~1,050 amps on each circuit with a considerable reduction in sag.

While not mandatory for every installation, this capability serves to improve reliability and confidence. CTC Global's Free Conductor Comparison Program CCP™ Software is Available Online

CTC Global is pleased to announce that our highly regarded Conductor Comparison Program (CCP™) software is now available online. The new web-based version has all the features found in the Excel version, which has been replaced and will no longer be supported. The new version is designed to make it easier to use, and it also has some new features. Having CCP online will make it easier to keep it up-to-date with new wire files and other data, and to add improvements as they are made. Users will always know they have the current version every time they log in. CCP is also compatible with tablets.

Registration to use CCP requires only a valid email address and password. Users may also use CCP as a guest however, saving and export features are only available to registered users.
