Modernizing the Grid: Policy Momentum, Proven Leadership, and Why Next-Generation Conductors Must Lead
The U.S. transmission grid is entering a once-in-a-century expansion cycle as electrification, renewable integration, AI and data centers, and resilience demands converge at unprecedented scale. Federal policy is stepping up with FERC Order 1920, which requires utilities to evaluate advanced solutions such as Grid-Enhancing Technologies (GETs) and High-Performance Conductors (HPCs). At the same time, states across the country are translating policy into action - mandating that utilities prioritize efficiency and reconductoring before pursuing costly new corridors.
In this rapidly evolving landscape, CTC Global’s ACCC® Conductor continues to set the benchmark for next-generation performance. With more than 1,400 deployments worldwide, ACCC® Conductor has proven its ability to double capacity, cut losses by up to 40%, and strengthen resilience while accelerating project timelines. The full article explores how national and state policy momentum is aligning with proven field leadership - and why Advanced Conductors like ACCC® Conductor must play a central role in building the grid of the future.

Unlocking Grid Potential: New POWER Report Highlights Key ACCC® Conductor Use Cases
A new CTC Global sponsored report from POWER Engineers, a member of WSP, highlights the significant benefits of CTC Global’s ACCC® Conductor for new and rebuilt transmission lines. The study compared ACCC® Conductor to traditional options such as ACSR, ACSS, and ACSS/TW across multiple scenarios up to 345 kV. The results were clear: ACCC® Conductor can reduce line losses by as much as 25%, cut total project costs by up to 15%, and deliver nearly double the ampacity of equivalent ACSR conductors - all while reducing sag by 4–7 feet, which lowers structure heights and foundation costs.
The analysis also showed that ACCC® Conductor is cost-competitive with high-temperature conductors like ACSS and ACSS/TW while offering added advantages such as reduced structure loading and greater design flexibility. In many cases, ACCC® Conductor allowed utilities to use smaller or fewer sub-conductors without compromising performance. These findings confirm what utilities around the world are already experiencing: ACCC® Conductor is not only a high-performance option, but also a cost-effective, future-ready solution for grid modernization.
| | | The Role of ASTM B987-20 and IEC TS 62818-1 in the Future of Advanced Conductors | As the power sector races to modernize, Advanced Conductors are stepping into the spotlight - delivering greater efficiency, higher capacity, and improved reliability for transmission lines worldwide. But ensuring long-term confidence in these carbon fiber composite core designs requires more than performance claims; it requires rigorous, trusted standards. In our latest blog post, we explore how ASTM B987-20 and IEC TS 62818-1 are shaping the future of Advanced Conductors by defining performance thresholds, harmonizing testing protocols, and giving utilities the confidence to invest in grid upgrades that will serve for decades to come. | | | Elevating Grid Performance: How ACCC® Conductors Surpass Steel Core Alternatives | As steel costs soar and transmission demand accelerates, utilities are rethinking traditional approaches to grid expansion. In today’s high-cost market, reconductoring with CTC Global’s ACCC® Conductor has emerged as a faster, more cost-effective, and lower-risk alternative to steel-intensive rebuilds or new line construction. By retaining existing structures and foundations while doubling capacity, reducing losses, and improving resilience, reconductoring delivers the capacity relief utilities need in months - not years - while avoiding the heavy civil costs and delays of conventional projects. | | | How ACCC® Conductors Tackle Extreme Ice Loads and Slash Project Timelines | As the power grid faces unprecedented demands - from aging infrastructure and renewables to AI data centers and electrification - utilities are rethinking how they strengthen transmission capacity. While legacy steel-core conductors offer incremental improvements, they remain limited by weight, sag, and thermal expansion. CTC Global’s ACCC® Conductor, built on Advanced Carbon Fiber Composite Core Technology, breaks these barriers. With superior strength, lower sag, and greater efficiency, ACCC® Conductor and its ULS and AZR variants offer utilities a future-ready solution to deliver more power, more reliably. | | |
