State Policies & Industry Shifts are Forcing a Transmission Rethink

Across the U.S., a wave of new state legislation is accelerating efforts to modernize electric transmission systems. States like California, Virginia, Montana, and others are pushing forward with policies aimed at streamlining transmission development, mandating evaluation of advanced grid technologies, and encouraging investment in infrastructure upgrades.

At the same time, major trends - including the rapid growth of energy-hungry data centers, broad state-level electrification goals, and the resurgence of U.S.-based manufacturing - are driving significant increases in electricity demand. Together, these forces are putting pressure on utilities and grid operators to rethink how they expand capacity and improve grid reliability.

These emerging challenges have sparked renewed focus on transmission solutions that can be deployed quickly, cost-effectively, and within existing corridors. As both public policies and economic drivers reshape grid requirements, technologies that improve efficiency, increase capacity, and strengthen resilience are moving to the forefront of transmission planning discussions.

To learn more about how these policy shifts and demand trends are shaping the future of transmission and what strategies and technologies will be needed to keep pace please read the full article - link below.

CTC Global CEO Spotlights ACCC® Conductor in Public Utilities Fortnightly

In a wide-ranging interview with Public Utilities Fortnightly, CTC Global CEO J.D. Sitton emphasized the transformative power of advanced conductors in meeting today’s transmission challenges. As energy demand surges and utilities grapple with outdated infrastructure and tightening budgets, Sitton explained how CTC Global’s ACCC® Conductor delivers a proven, cost-effective solution. “There’s a big difference between innovations people are hoping will work and our product, which is used successfully around the world,” Sitton said. In fact, reconductoring projects using ACCC® Conductor have been completed in as little as eight months - often doubling line capacity while cutting capital costs in half.

Sitton highlighted global and domestic momentum for the technology, citing widespread use in 68 countries and strong growth in the U.S. as utilities respond to data center expansion, climate-related threats, and capacity constraints. From India to California, ACCC® Conductor is enabling utilities to maximize existing rights-of-way while enhancing system reliability, efficiency, and resilience. “Traditional lines sag as they heat up - ours don’t,” Sitton noted. “That translates to safer, higher-capacity lines that cost less to install and maintain.”

CTC Global continues to lead with innovation, including its patented InfoCore® system, which ensures proper installation before crews leave the job site, and its upcoming continuous sensor technology that will provide real-time data on line performance. Sitton’s message is clear: with demand rising and capital efficiency more important than ever, utilities don’t have to wait for unproven solutions - ACCC® Conductor is delivering results today.

Harvard Paper Highlights the Need to Build an Efficient & High Capacity Grid to Protect Ratepayers

In the paper Extracting Profits from the Public: How Utility Ratepayers Are Paying for Big Tech’s Power, Eliza Martin and Ari Peskoe delve into the hidden costs of powering the world’s largest tech companies, revealing how utility ratepayers are footing the bill for energy-hungry data centers owned by companies like Amazon, Google, Meta, and Microsoft. As utilities seek to meet the electricity demands of these corporations, they expand their systems - constructing new power plants and transmission lines. This expansion, while profitable for utilities, shifts the burden of infrastructure costs to everyday consumers, forcing ratepayers to subsidize discounted electricity rates for Big Tech. The paper underscores the urgent need for utilities to deploy high-capacity, energy-efficient ACCC® Conductor conductors to rapidly modernize the grid. This will help reduce the strain on ratepayers by increasing grid capacity without compromising efficiency, thus alleviating the financial burden on consumers and creating a more equitable energy landscape.
