In a wide-ranging interview with Public Utilities Fortnightly, CTC Global CEO J.D. Sitton emphasized the transformative power of advanced conductors in meeting today’s transmission challenges. As energy demand surges and utilities grapple with outdated infrastructure and tightening budgets, Sitton explained how CTC Global’s ACCC® Conductor delivers a proven, cost-effective solution. “There’s a big difference between innovations people are hoping will work and our product, which is used successfully around the world,” Sitton said. In fact, reconductoring projects using ACCC® Conductor have been completed in as little as eight months - often doubling line capacity while cutting capital costs in half.

Sitton highlighted global and domestic momentum for the technology, citing widespread use in 68 countries and strong growth in the U.S. as utilities respond to data center expansion, climate-related threats, and capacity constraints. Southern California Edison (SCE) is enhancing the region's electrical grid with the Laguna Bell to Mesa No.1 Substation 230 kV Reconductor Project, which aims to increase transmission capacity between key substations. To achieve this, SCE utilized CTC Global’s Fort Worth-size ACCC® Conductor with the ACCC InfoCore® System, a next-generation solution that offers higher current-carrying capacity, reduced line sag, and increased efficiency. Supplied by Lamifil, with hardware from Dervaux, the conductor technology will improve the overall performance and reliability of the transmission line. Additionally, CTC Global’s North America Regional Service Manager, Rickey Hayes, along with multiple Master Installers throughout the project oversaw the installation to ensure the highest standards were met.

This expansion, while profitable for utilities, shifts the burden of infrastructure costs to everyday consumers, forcing ratepayers to subsidize discounted electricity rates for Big Tech. The paper underscores the urgent need for utilities to deploy high-capacity, energy-efficient ACCC^® Conductor conductors to rapidly modernize the grid.
