ACCC Installation Completed in Mexicali Mexico

Earlier this month, with the support of Grupo Aldesa, over 43 km of 1020 kcmil (517 mm^2) ACCC Drake size conductor was installed in Mexicali, Mexico for Comision Federal de Electricidad (CFE). CFE is a decentralized state-owned government agency which generates and distributes electric power to nearly 100 million people.  CFE's infrastructure is made up of 209 generating plants with an installed capacity of 52,515 megawatts. CFE's transmission and distribution system, consisting of more than 756,000 km of conductor, reaches nearly 190,000 communities. This helps nearly 98 percent of Mexico's population have access to and use electric power.

Grupo Aldesa, based in Madrid, Spain, has a substantial operations in Mexico as well as a strong presence in Peru, Guatemala, Poland, Romania and India. Grupo Aldesa offers construction services that surpass the most demanding quality, safety and environmental standards by leveraging the talent of their skilled professionals that share a firm commitment to innovation and process improvement.

This most recent ACCC installation in Mexicali was installed to increase clearance of a 230 kV line to accommodate new under-build near a substation.  CTC Global's installation supervisors, Claude Chapman and Wilfredo Mora provided training to approximately two dozen members of the installation team. Claude and Wilfredo stayed at the project site for an additional week to offer further support. The project was successfully completed in the anticipated time frame without incident.

Why Over 100 International Utilities Have Selected ACCC

  • High Capacity
  • Low Sag
  • High Strength
  • Fatigue Resistant
  • Corrosion Resistant
  • Excellent Self Damping
  • Easy to Install
  • Great for Long Spans
  • Very Tough
  • Extensively Proven
  • Excellent for N-1 Conditions
  • Lower Line Losses

The ACCC Conductor's added aluminum content (without a weight or diameter penalty) allows it to run cooler under any load condition which translates into reduced line losses. Reduced line losses can save fuel, emissions and generation capacity.

The Bottom Line:

In more than 290 cases, the ACCC conductor has offered over 100 utilities the best economic solution for their particular project.

Free Design Software
CTC Global created CCP to help system planners and engineers compare the ampacity, line losses, thermal and ice load sag, and economic aspects of nearly any conductor type and size, so the numerous advantages of the ACCC conductor can be fully realized. The user simply selects the conductor types and sizes from drop down menus and enters the appropriate values & assumptions highlighted in the yellow boxes. The program is fully functional and uses standard industry formulas (such as IEEE 738-2006). Outputs are readily comparable to Sag10, PLS CADD™ and other similar programs.
