CTC Global Participates at ERCOT Market Summit

CTC Global had the privilege of speaking on, and moderating, multiple panels at the 2019 Electric Reliability Council of Texas (ERCOT) Market Summit in February. ERCOT is an ISO that manages the flow of electric power to more than 25 million Texas customers, representing about 90 percent of the state's electric load. The summit gives over 200 utility professionals the opportunity to examine potential new market rules and economic drivers, while bringing policy-makers together with utility, solar, wind, IPP and other executives to explore the potential solutions and opportunities every year.
 
CTC Global's David Townley (Director of Public Policy) and Joseph Sylvia (Business Coordinator and Analyst) had the opportunity to discuss, both on and off stage, the efficiency and operational befits of using ACCC Conductor.
 
During a panel session that David Townley moderated, it was recognized that consumers in the ERCOT region are experiencing very high congestion costs. The fact that the ACCC conductor can be used to mitigate this problem was well received by the attendees, especially considering that this problem is anticipated get worse if not managed by technology investment and planning.
 
Meeting participants were also pleased to learn how energy efficient conductors such as ACCC can reduce line losses, fuel consumption and associated emissions, while freeing up generation capacity and simultaneously increasing the resilience and reliability of the grid. To date, in fact, the ACCC conductor has already been used to increase the efficiency, capacity, reliability and resilience of 16 transmission lines in Texas. 

CTC Global looks forward to further developing its relationship with ERCOT and ERCOT Utilities as they develop solutions to building a more robust and resilient grid.

ETESA Begings 84.5 km Double Circuit  ACCC Conductor Installation in Panama

Supported by the EPC firm Elecnor, the Panamanian Utility Empresa de Transmisión Eléctrica S.A. (ETESA) have just commenced construction on a critical capacity upgrade to an existing double circuit 230 kV Transmission Line in David City, Panama. 

Using high performance, high capacity ACCC conductor developed and produced by CTC Global and available through a number of authorized manufacturing partners, ETESA was able to utilize all 220 of the existing metal lattice suspension and anchor towers without requiring any structural upgrades. 

ETESA selected 23.55 mm^2 Dove size ACCC conductor to replace ACAR conductor on the Mata de Nance - Veladero line that had been in service for many years. The transmission line, located in the Province of Chiriqui, comprises a 230 kV transmission line, double three-phase circuit, that has its start in the existing S / E Mata de Nance Substation, located in the town of Mata del Nance, and its termination in the existing Substation S / E Veladero, located in the town of El Veladero. The 84.5 kilometer project includes both river and mountain crossings with a 37 kilometer continuous section of suspension structures only.  Viakable S.A. from Mexico supplied over 530 kilometers of ACCC conductor for the project and Forjasul S.A. from Brazil provided the installation hardware.

This project is the first of many transmission projects that ETESA is planning to upgrade to provide additional capacity to serve increasing loads, both for internal and export purposes. ACCC conductor was chosen due to its excellent performance, both in providing the required capacity and in doing so with the least amount of line losses. Transmission efficiency was important to ETESA for this project and future upgrades.

CTC Global's Conductor Comparison Program CCP Software is Now Available Online

CTC Global is pleased to announce that our highly regarded Conductor Comparison Program (CCP) software is now available online, and is accessible at ccp.ctcglobal.com 

The new web-based version has all the features found in the Excel version, which has been replaced and will no longer be supported. The new version is designed to make it easier to use, and it also has some new features. Having CCP online will make it easier to keep it up-to-date with new wire files and other data, and to add improvements as they are made. Users will always know they have the current version every time they log in. CCP is also compatible with tablets.

All data required for calculations is entered on one page. Representative ACCC® Conductors are automatically selected based on the "base" conductor selected. Some fields are automatically entered based on earlier entries or saved user preferences. For example, latitude is entered from a web app based on the project location, and currency conversion is provided using real-time web app information. The user can edit most input data, including default and automatically selected data. Registered users can save multiple projects, recall them, modify them and save them as new projects or overwrite the existing projects.

CCP comparison output is displayed on a separate page. Frequently changed input used for sensitivity analysis is conveniently provided on that same page to minimize toggling between pages. Registered users can export reports that break out sections of the output to PDF and Excel files.

Registration to use CCP requires only a valid email address and password. Users may also use CCP as a guest however, saving and export features are only available to registered users.
