CTC Global Recognized as a Top Ten Electric Utility Solution Provider

Each year Utilities Tech Outlook Magazine announces their Top Ten Electric Utility Solution Providers who are recognized for their innovations and efforts to help utilities deliver power more efficiently while keeping rates low. This year CTC Global was among the companies honored with this recognition.
CTC Global's Conductor Comparison Program CCP Software is Now Available Online

CTC Global is pleased to announce that our highly regarded Conductor Comparison Program (CCP) software is now available online, and is accessible at
An email with a link is being sent to current users of our Excel-based CCP who have an email address on file with us.

The new web-based version has all the features found in the Excel version, which has been replaced and will no longer be supported. The new version is designed to make it easier to use, and it also has some new features. Having CCP online will make it easier to keep it up-to-date with new wire files and other data, and to add improvements as they are made. Users will always know they have the current version every time they log in. CCP is also compatible with tablets.

All data required for calculations is entered on one page. Representative ACCC® Conductors are automatically selected based on the "base" conductor selected. Some fields are automatically entered based on earlier entries or saved user preferences. For example, latitude is entered from a web app based on the project location, and currency conversion is provided using real-time web app information. The user can edit most input data, including default and automatically selected data. Registered users can save multiple projects, recall them, modify them and save them as new projects or overwrite the existing projects.

CCP comparison output is displayed on a separate page. Frequently changed input used for sensitivity analysis is conveniently provided on that same page to minimize toggling between pages. Registered users can export reports that break out sections of the output to PDF and Excel files.

Registration to use CCP requires only a valid email address and password. Users may also use CCP as a guest however, saving and export features are only available to registered users.

Thank you for using our CCP. We welcome your feedback. For technical support, please contact
CTC Global Introduces ACCC® AZR™ Conductor Designed to Mitigate Heavy Ice Loads

How CTC Global and its ACCC Manufacturing Partners are Shattering Heavy Ice Loads
Unlike steel which will plastically (and permanently) deform and yield under extreme ice load conditions, the ACCC composite core is fully elastic. The benefit is obvious, but the drawback is that under extreme ice it can sag more than a conventional steel core conductor.
To combat this issue CTC Global offers many strategies:
In several designs we have simply increased the size of the standard 310 ksi ACCC core (for comparison, high strength steel is rated at 285 ksi), which can do the trick. We have also designed and fully tested a higher strength ACCC core rated at 375 ksi. We call this product ACCC ULS, which has been installed at approximately three dozen projects, worldwide. The ACCC ULS version also has a higher modulus which means it stretches less under extreme ice load conditions.
In some cases, smaller diameter ACCC designs can also be effective at minimizing sag under heavy ice conditions. Most recently CTC Global has introduced ACCC AZR conductor which consists of either a standard 310 ksi core or a 375 ksi core, either of which are then stranded with one or more layers of AT3 Aluminum Zirconium alloy strands. (see ASTM Standard B-941 or IEC Standard 62004).
At this time, two configurations have been developed and fully tested, that use the standard 310 ksi ACCC core. These products are known as ACCC AZR 826 kcmil Calgary and ACCC AZR 994 kcmil Toronto. The Toronto is essentially a Drake size equivalent with a 1.108" outer diameter, a larger .415" core (our standard ACCC Drake equivalent uses a .375" core) and has a rated strength of 44,500 pounds compared to our standard ACCC Drake equivalent at 41,100 pounds. For comparison, ACSR Drake is rated at 31,500 pounds.
The Calgary version is slightly smaller in diameter at 1.010" and rated at 39,700 pounds. It uses a .375" 310 ksi ACCC core and uses Type 1350-O fully annealed aluminum on the inner layer and Type AT3 Aluminum Zirconium alloy on the outer layer. We have other AZR conductor sizes in the queue to help our customers deal with challenging projects.
The take away is that we can help you find a cost effective and efficient conductor solution no matter what challenges you face.
Please let us know how we can help.

Bill White Chairs EUCI Transmission Conference at PSE&G

Bill White, Director of Business Development for the Northeastern U.S. for CTC Global, chaired the EUCI Transmission Upgrades & Reconductoring Technologies Summit on October 10 - 11 at PSE&G in South Plainfield, New Jersey.
The conference covered regulatory initiatives, issues related to reliability and resiliency, the utility decision-making process for transmission investments, and innovative technological solutions to increasingly difficult engineering challenges.
Several utilities presented detailed case studies to highlight role of new technologies, including: high performance conductors, energized reconductoring, helicopter-assisted construction, structure-raising, and bird-strike mitigation.
James Berger, Managing Director of Transmission Projects for AEP, described how the company has expanded its use of ACCC Conductor from a pilot project in 2006 to "mainstream" use today, with over 15 projects totaling more than 300 line miles (thousands of conductor miles) now in service.
Amit Urs, Project Manager at National Grid (US), and Kevin Baxter of Power Engineers described how a combination of technologies, including ACCC Conductor and AmpJack tower raising, are enabling them to complete a line upgrade without replacing 95 year-old lattice towers.

CTC Global and Gupta Power announced that they have established a new partnership to produce, distribute, market and sell ACCC electrical conductors in India using CTC Global's internationally patented ACCC conductor core and settled the litigation filed by CTC Global relating to the enforcement of its patent rights in India.
