How to Improve the Efficiency, Capacity, Reliability and Resilience of the Grid with #ACCCConductor  
AEP Completes 15th ACCC Conductor Installation in Texas
Following AEP's award winning 240 mile 345 kV live line (energized) ACCC reconductor project in the Lower Rio Grande Valley, and, in the wake of Hurricane Harvey - which severely damaged an existing 24 mile 345 kV ACSR line near Rockport, American Electric Power completed their 15th ACCC conductor installation earlier this month.

With the support of Engineering Company Tech Serv and Installation Contractor KV Power, AEP installed new steel H-frame structures and vertically bundled Drake size ACCC conductor. A helicopter (Source Helicopters) was used to pull in pilot lines between the structures at ~1,100 ft spans. In addition to crossing two highways, the line also crossed the San Antonio River.

David Pearce and Robert Seekell, two of CTC Global's Master Installers provided installation support for the ACCC conductor produced by General Cable. AFL provided hardware for the project and Wagner Smith tensioners were used during the installation.

The newly reconstructed line will offer greater capacity, improved reliability and corrosion resistance while also serving to reduce electrical line losses by an estimated 30 percent. Reduced line losses not only reduces fuel consumption and associated emissions, it also frees-up generation capacity that is otherwise wasted. CTC Global applauds AEP's commitment to building a more robust, resilient and efficient power grid throughout AEP's service territory.

CTC Global and IMSA Host ACCC Conductor Workshop in South America
CTC Global and IMSA held a workshop last month to cover all aspects of the high-performance, energy-efficient ACCC conductor.  Topics included the overall improved efficiency, capacity, reliability and resilience message; a number of case studies that demonstrated how improved strength and sag can be used to reduce upfront capital costs on new lines; a review of hardware and ancillary components; CTC Global's CCP design software; and installation methods in varied conditions.
The turnout was very strong and the attendees offered many outstanding questions. All in all, it was a highly productive event. A special thanks go to IMSA's Fernando Cofman, Jorge Garcia and Patricio Garavaglia, as well as CTC Global's Carlos Fornazzari and Roberto Aastrup.

CTC Global Attends 18th Annual African Utility Week Exposition
CTC Global recently attended the 18th annual African Utility Week, a major yearly trade exhibition for African power, energy, and water professionals.
Wynand DeLange, CTC Global's VP of Business Development in the region, and other members of the CTC team, had the opportunity connect with a multitude of industry professionals in different sectors from all over Africa.
Over 7,000 attendees and 300 exhibitors came together in Cape Town, South Africa to share the latest technologies and solutions tailored to utility challenges specific to Africa. The main topics discussed included the nearly 600 ACCC conductor projects completed worldwide to improve the efficiency, capacity, reliability and resilience of the grid; completed, ongoing and upcoming projects in Africa; and how CTC Global's engineering and field service groups are helping utilities complete important projects economically and in a timely fashion.
Mr. DeLange commented on the success of the event stating: "The ability to discuss the importance of ACCC conductor with key African utility professionals on such a large scale will certainly support further deployments of ACCC conductor in Africa."
PGCB Visits CTC Global to Witness Factory Acceptance Testing
Power Grid Company of Bangladesh (PGCB) visited CTC Global to witnesses Factory Acceptance Testing for four significant ACCC Conductor Projects in Bangladesh.
The program was led by CTC Global's Senior Engineer, Mr. Tom Parsons with support of a team of QC technicians and Vice President of Engineering, Mr. Bill WebbPGCB was represented by Chief Engineer (PD), Mr. Mahbub Ahmed, General Manager (P&A), Mr. Abul Khair Chowdhury, Superintending Engineer Grid Circle, Mr. MD. Moksedur Rahman, and Superintending Engineer Planning, Mr. Muhammad Nuruzzaman, who witnessed the tests during their weeklong visit to CTC Global's facility.
In addition to touring CTC Global's factory and discussing upcoming projects, the PGCB team witnessed core testing consisting of torsion tests, shear tests, tensile tests, glass transition (Tg) temperature tests and many others. CTC's Quality Control Lab did an outstanding job of completing nearly 200 tests successfully with 100% first time right performance.
CTC Global was pleased and honored to serve PGCB during this, their fourth factory visit. PGCB has selected the ACCC conductor for several projects due to its high capacity, energy efficiency, reliability and cost effectiveness.

CTC Global created CCP software to help system planners and engineers compare the ampacity, line losses, thermal and ice load sag, and economic aspects of nearly any conductor type and size, so the numerous advantages of the ACCC conductor can be fully realized.
The user simply selects the conductor types and sizes from drop down menus and enters the appropriate values & assumptions highlighted in the yellow boxes. The program is fully functional and uses standard industry formulas (such as IEEE 738-2006). Outputs are readily comparable to Sag10®, PLS CADD™ and other similar programs.
