POs Share Annual Review Feedback
This year, the format for our reviews with the National Science Foundation changed a bit. While each award team presented reports to our NSF program officers (POs), in turn, feedback common to all awards was presented to ACCESS PIs collectively in a single meeting. We’re happy to report that overall, our POs emphasized we’ve been very successful to date in advancing the ACCESS brand and unifying our strategy to generate significant outcomes for continued success. Of course, there’s always room for improvement; here's a summary of the specific areas of recommended focus from our program officers:
- Define and agree on "integrated" vs. "affiliated" resources for ACCESS, ensuring clear communication to avoid confusion
- Identify ACCESS user segments (novice, intermediate, advanced) and tailor messaging, outreach and services accordingly
- Develop program-wide messaging that includes cross-award communications and relevant RP-related messages
- Establish bi-directional communication and feedback loops between ACCESS Standing Committees/Working Groups and the Executive Council (EC)
- Align awardee goals with NSF ACCESS goals, creating collective strategies, metrics and KPIs
- Use data-driven decisions based on relevant data collected by any of the five awards
- Utilize ACCESS program-wide coordination tools for recording decisions, strategies, milestones and risks
- Break down KPIs, metrics or other data by stakeholder types, including user segments, RPs and ACCESS award teams
We encourage staff to provide any feedback or inputs you or your Standing Committee might have.
The next step is for our Executive Committee to work through how to execute on these recommendations. Following that exercise, we’ll share more details about implementation. Thanks to everyone who participated in the reviews and to everyone for a job well done.
