Each year, ACCG celebrates county leadership with the installation of the new Board of Managers and through its Awards & Recognition Program. 
2020 - 2021 Board of Managers

“The 2020-2021 ACCG Board of Managers represents the collective strength of Georgia’s local communities,” said Executive Director Dave Wills. “Now, more than ever, we have witnessed the significance of leadership at the local level. I congratulate and look forward to working with our newly installed Board of Managers as we continue our efforts to serve all 159 counties throughout the state.”
Officers
President

Jefferson County Commissioner Johnny Davis was sworn in during a special ceremony in April as ACCG president. In this role, Davis will work directly with ACCG Executive Director Dave Wills and the Board members to lead the association and guide policies over the next year. The Board will continue to work on issues which focus on increasing county efficiencies, enhancing continuing education offerings and fostering strong relationships between counties, the state, and federal government. First Vice President

Bartow County Sole Commissioner Steve Taylor was elected as the association's First Vice President. As ACCG first vice President and member of the Executive Committee, Taylor will serve as board liaison to the association's member services programs, including insurance, retirement, technical assistance and preferred partners. He will also chair the ACCG Policy Council.
Second Vice President

Tift County Commissioner Melissa Hughes was elected to serve as second vice president. As ACCG second vice president and member of the Executive Committee, Hughes will serve as board liaison for the association's leadership programs, which includes the ACCG Lifelong Learning Program.
Third Vice President

Baldwin County Chairman Henry Craig will assume the role of third vice president. In his role, Craig will support the work of the ACCG Civic Affairs Foundation, which provides internships for college and university students through the Georgia County Internship Program (GCIP).

2020 Leadership Award Recipients
The Emory Greene Leadership and the Jerry R. Griffin Excellence in Public Service awards are ACCG's two most prestigious awards. These awards are presented to elected and appointed county officials, respectively, in recognition of their significant contributions to their local communities and, or, at the state level.

ACCG would like to congratulate the following leaders for going above and beyond the call of duty to provide a better quality of life for their constituents.
Emory Greene Leadership Award

Gwinnett County Chairman Charlotte Nash is the recipient of the Emory Greene Leadership Award. A true leader, Nash has gracefully navigated the county through unprecedented growth, financial hardships and a lack of public trust.
Jerry R. Griffin Excellence in Public Service Award

Mark Teal, Douglas County Administrator is the recipient of the Jerry R. Griffin in Public Service Award. Known for his leadership style, Teal is highly respected among the county for his ability to encourage and motivate others.
Legislative Advocacy Award

The Legislative Advocate of the Year Award goes to DeKalb County Commissioner Jeff Rader. Rader has been instrumental in helping the ACCG policy team oppose legislation that would take home rule away from local governments.
Youth Leadership Award

The Youth Leadership Award was given to Henry County youth leader Jayden Williams . Williams is described as a natural leader who excels inside and outside of the classroom.

2020 County Excellence Awards
In collaboration with Georgia Trend magazine, ACCG hosted the 2020 County Excellence Awards to recognize counties t hat have taken innovative and cost-effective approaches to solving local issues. This year's program recognized innovative county initiatives in the areas of health care, infrastructure and transportation, public safety, sustainability, and technology.

“County officials are constantly developing new programs and initiatives to meet the needs of their citizens,” said Dave Wills, ACCG’s Executive Director. “The recipients of the 2020 Georgia County Excellence Awards are a direct reflection of the innovation that occurs in county government in order to meet those needs and address community challenges.”

  • DeKalb County – M.O.R.E. Mothers Offering Resources and Education

  • Henry County – Rescue Task Force Initiative 
  • Jones County – Veterans Telemedicine Room
