Reaching Hard-to-Count Communities
The most
crucial groups
for Local Complete Count Committees to reach are
hard-to-count communities
or areas identified by the Census Bureau with low response rates. In some cases, these groups need assurances that it is safe to participate in this process, and they need to understand the benefits of completing the Census.
The Census Bureau estimates that approximately 22% (2.2 million) of Georgians live in hard-to-count areas. If
Georgia fails to count these 2.2 million people
in the 2020 Census, the state and local governments
could lose
over
$5 billion in federal funding per year until the next decennial Census.
