Responding to the 2020 Census

Most households received their invitation to respond to the 2020 Census between March 12 – 20. The questionnaire can be completed online, by phone, or by mail. Visit my2020census.gov   to get started.

County Spotlight

Marion County thought outside the box and invited their local boy scout troop to get involved! The boy scouts helped canvas the community with posters for businesses, information tables at events, and educational sessions at their meetings.

Gwinnett County Board of Commissioners made a proclamation encouraging residents to participate in the 2020 Census. Members of the Complete Count Committee and local Census Bureau staff were in attendance.

Revising Your 2020 Census Outreach during the COVID-19 Pandemic
For two years, counties and cities have partnered with various groups within the community to prepare for the 2020 Census. Even with years of planning, it was impossible to predict the worldwide pandemic that was heading our way. COVID-19 has impacted how LCCC's interact with the public, forcing them to shift strategies and rely heavily on social media. While the public practices social distancing, it's never been easier to fill out the Census from home. Use this to your advantage, find creative ways to increase your committee's social media presence. From selfie “I’ve been counted” photo ops to videos, committees can still reach the public and encourage them to take the Census. Outreach should focus on the ease and security of taking the census online. The best way to do this is to have a messaging strategy in place that answers questions about the importance of the Census and what it means to the community, certain groups, and individuals. Census Outreach Operations Changes
The U.S. Census Bureau has currently suspended field operations until April 15 and may make additional modifications as needed. Non-response field operations have been delayed, as well as the counting of the homeless and group quarters. Self-response options such as mailing in the paper form, responding by phone, and responding online will be extended from July 31 to August 14. Detailed information on these changes can be found on the U.S. Census website at 2020census.gov .
U.S. Census Bureau Response Rate map
The U.S. Census Bureau response rate map features self-response rates from households across the United States that completed the Census. As of April 5, the national self-response rate was 45.1%, while Georgia had a self-response rate of 42.6% . Use the map as a tool to encourage get-out-the-count efforts.
