Newton County created flyers to provide at Back-to School events to emphasize how quickly households can fill out the questionnaire. In just 10 minutes, residents can help their community for the next 10 years. 

Brookhaven has created a website in English and Spanish as well as three census video ads (in Spanish) with Telemundo Atlanta. These ads ran on Telemundo during March and are available here.

Back to School Census Campaigns
Has your Local Complete Count Committee partnered with schools and local organizations for back-to-school events? Now is a great time to share with parents/teachers how schools are impacted by census responses. Consider including census flyers or stickers in the giveaway bags or even setting up census awareness booths (if social distancing allows). Share resources with your teachers that can be used in the home or at school to keep students engaged and parents informed. Visit the census website to find coloring books, worksheets and more!

Remember, you can reach a bigger audience by combining Census events with existing events. Here are some great tips on how to successfully cross promote.

Key Dates to Remember
  • On August 3, the Census Bureau officially announced it would be ending 2020 Census collections on September 30 instead of October 31 as previously announced. Additional details on this change can be found here, and the full operation schedule is available here.    

  • Starting today, August 11, Census Bureau employees will be going door-to-door to all non-responsive addresses. At this time, households will be able to respond directly to the enumerators, online, by phone, or on the paper form through September 30.

Congratulations to the city of Nicholson in District 5! They have the highest increase this week to their census response rate of .90 % of those participating in GMA’s Census Challenge. Good job, and keep those numbers growing!

Here is this week’s challenge on how your city can drive up your response numbers:

Week 2 Census Challenge
Each week put up a new flyer promoting the Census in a visible location throughout your public facilities. Flyers include Confidentiality, LGBTQ, Bilingual English & Spanish Poster, why they ask your race question, and how to "Be a Census Taker". You can find more by visiting 2020Census.gov.

Current Response Rates:

  • Georgia’s response rate is at 59% (38th in the country), and we are lagging behind the national rate by 4.3%.
  • 68 counties and 262 cities have response rates below 50%.
  • (Only) 91 of Georgia’s 159 counties and 263 of Georgia’s 538 cities have passed the 50% self-response rate mark.
