How to Build Employee Trust and Minimize Labor Unrest
By: Thomas Godar, Rufino Gaytán III, and Adam Doerr,
Labor and Employment Attorneys at Husch Blackwell
|
|
Many in the press dubbed October 2021 as “Striketober.” It was reported that roughly 25,000 workers had walked off their jobs and joined picket lines, and many journalists predicted that we had entered a new era of worker unrest, resulting in job actions.
This prediction is not yet borne out by the numbers. As much as anything, the "Striketober" headlines were driven by a handful of household names that were the subject of strikes or threatened strikes. Employees at Nabisco, John Deere, and Kellogg Co. were all on the picket line.
Striketober was further intensified by the threat of strikes.

ACC St. Louis FURBABIES!
Zoe (Catahoula leopard dog, German Shepard mix) was adopted by ACC St. Louis member, Sarah E. Holdener, Esq., General Counsel at FKG Oil Company, from a shelter in August 2021 at four months old.
Zoe eats EVERYTHING. She’s destroyed many shoes, a pair of kitchen scissors, chewed the arms off my boyfriend’s glasses, and even chewed open a Motrin bottle - though thankfully she didn’t swallow any! If anything is missing, you can bet she dragged it out the doggy door and it’s in the back yard.
Zoe is very sweet and playful and loves walks.

We would love to feature more of our ACC St. Louis members' pets in our social media communication, so we're asking interested parties to send a jpg photo to accstl@qabs.com with answers to some of the following questions:
-
What is your pet's name?
-
How did you get your pet?
-
What is the funniest/most memorable thing that you pet has done?
-
What is the best thing about your pet?
While not all submissions are able to be featured, we will do our best to give your favorite pet his or her day in the sun!

Employers Beware: Employment Practices
in the Antitrust Crosshairs
By J. Nicci Warr, Litigation Attorney, Stinson, LLP
|
|
Traditionally, when most people think of antitrust, they think of price-fixing. Images of competitors meeting in smoke-filled rooms and collectively deciding what they will charge for their products comes to mind.[i] More recently, antitrust may bring to mind large technology companies—Google, Meta (the new name of Facebook), Apple, and Amazon—and discussions about whether these companies have obtained dominance over their relative markets that should be addressed through lawsuits or new legislation.[ii] What is less likely considered when people think about antitrust is employment. But events over the last several years and recent statements by the United States antitrust enforcers should cause all employers to take notice: The antitrust laws apply equally to the purchase of labor as they do to the selling of goods and services. Consequently, it would be advisable for employers to ensure that their hiring, recruitment, and non-compete/non-solicit policies and practices comply with the antitrust laws.
