FEBRUARY 2018
Doug Burke

ACE Tennis President

It's hard to believe that we are already more than a month into our winter session. It was great to see Alex Mikhailuk playing so well over the Christmas break - winning both the Canadian Open - hosted by ACE at Cedar Springs -  and the Advantage International Open - at Veneto; as well as being the Finalist in the USTA National Campus UTR Open. It was also wonderful to see such large participation -  including so many ACE players - in the annual ACE Christmas Super Series event.

The winter competitive season is in full swing, well done all ACE players that qualified for the recent National Selection #1, and the ongoing National Selection #2 tournaments. Congratulations to Rachel Krzyzak on winning the National Selections #2 U16 Singles and Doubles!

Meanwhile ACE has forged some exciting new partnerships (see below) with Dr. Anil Kaushal Director of Omni Health and Sana Farid of Empower Aces. Congratulations to Natalie Armitage for her appointment as Tennis Director at Cedar Springs - see our interview with her below, we wish Natalie much success in her new role.

ACE will be running March Break Camps for U10 competitive and progressive players - and summer camps, which will be held at Cedar Springs and Burlington Tennis Club  in Burlington, along with Toronto Tennis City in Toronto. March Break Camp registration is open and Summer Camp registration will open tomorrow February 15th.

Lastly, Burlington will be staging several exciting events - including National Selections, Provincials, and our annual Spring ITF event.

MEET CEDAR SPRINGS NEW
TENNIS DIRECTOR
Natalie Armitage
Natalie Armitage is the new Tennis Director at Cedar Springs and we wanted to introduce her to all our readers. When she comes rushing in from her lesson, she assures us immediately that she remembers she agreed to meet for a talk. It's Monday and she has already had a busy weekend attending her daughter's cheer leading competition in Ottawa. She has been on court since early this morning, a nonstop feeding machine spewing out balls and valuable lessons in technique and strategy, and now an account- ant is looking to speak with her, she is on her way to a meeting with the General Manager, she has a son and daughter likely waiting for her assistance when she comes home, and then there is us. We assure her it will be quick.

OFFICIAL PARTNERS
Dr. Anil Kaushal
" An athletes body faces different demands than the average patient. Sports injuries are unique and the rehab that follows these injuries needs to be uniquely tailored as well. We will be conducting movement screening of ACE high performance athletes in order for us to gather baseline data on how the players move. In the unfortunate event that a player is injured, we will then already have knowledge of their specific mechanics and can use that to help direct treatment more efficiently. We will also use the screen as an opportunity to note errant movement patterns, muscle compensation and general movement capacity to make possible training/fitness recommendations to the coaches."

MENTAL PREPARATION FOR A TOUGH
TENNIS MATCH

With the competitive indoor season on right now I came across this article on mental toughness when playing tournaments. I think it's a great tool for players to use in order to help them prepare for matches and also to review after their matches to see if they followed the advice of the article. Good luck to all the competitive players this indoor season.
