2019 Publications

T he finalized package of CEQA regulation updates are here and included in our 2019 publication!

The last comprehensive update to the CEQA Guidelines occurred in the late 1990s. Beginning in 2011, the Governor's Office of Planning and Researching and the Natural Resources Agency began informally collecting ideas on possible improvements to the CEQA guidelines. The December 28th, 2018, finalized package of regulation updates to approximately thirty sections and three appendices is the result of more than five years of research and substantial public input. You can read more  here.

AB 3018 Guide Update

As mentioned in our January newsletter, AB 3018 was passed and signed last year, amending the skilled and trained workforce requirements for public contracts in the Public Contract Code.

To assist in clarifying the obligation and affects AB 3018 has on design professional services, ACEC California will be releasing a guide for members shortly via e-mail, as it is currently in development.

Minuteman Fund Helps Defeat Prop. 6
To help protect Senate Bill 1 (SB1), the Road Repair and Accountability act of 2017 and defeat Proposition 6 during the last election, our ACEC Minuteman Fund from our national office in Washington D.C. granted ACEC California $225,000 that we contributed toward the campaign. Now it is our job to help replenish the fund.

ACEC California members have the option to contribute to the Minuteman Fund when paying membership dues. Please consider making whatever contribution you can to the fund. The Minuteman Fund is there to help support all of our ACEC Member organizations across the United States, when they have important issues like this to fight.

Engineers Week

National Engineers Week kicks off this February 17 th and runs through the 23 rd . This is a great opportunity to showcase the work your member firms are doing to contribute to their communities and promote engineering as a field of study for students of all ages and backgrounds.

ACEC would like to help amplify what our member firms are doing to celebrate National Engineers Week. ACEC National would like to showcase efforts on the ACEC National website, blog and social media channels.  Specifically, they are interested in collecting any photos, video or other media your firms produce for National Engineers Week. ACEC National is looking to put people first in their National Engineers Week promotion.

That means they are interested in videos and photos that show excitement, diversity, and inclusion in engineering. They are also placing a special emphasis this year on February 21st, which is Introduce a Girl to Engineering Day. To help ease the collection process, we have attached a release to this message that will allow ACEC to collect and use this content.

Please submit links, video files, or related media to me by the close of business on Thursday, February 21st at  jurbanchuk@acec.org .

Mandatory Harassment Prevention Training
A new law that took effect on January 1, 2019, requires virtually all California employers to provide sexual harassment prevention training to all employees. Specifically, by January 1, 2020, employers with five or more employees must provide one hour of sexual harassment prevention training to nonsupervisory employees and two hours of such training to supervisors. In order to comply with the January 1, 2020 deadline, all employees must be trained during the calendar year 2019.

Employees who were trained in 2018 or before will need to be retrained. This new requirement reflects an expansion of the prior harassment training law that's been in place for over a decade, which requires employers with 50 or more employees to provide sexual harassment prevention training to all supervisors in California.

If you are a CalChamber member, you can purchase their self guided courses for supervisors and employees here.
