ACEC-Canada’s Parliament Hill Day 2023 an unequivocal success for the consulting engineering industry

On October 19th, close to 60 industry leaders from across Canada came to Ottawa to rally the industry for ACEC-Canada’s 2023 Parliament Hill Day. During this cornerstone advocacy activity, they amplified the sector’s voice by meeting with Ministers, Members of Parliament (MPs), Senators, and other policy makers. Over the course of some 35 meetings with representatives from across party lines, they discussed how consulting engineering firms play a key role in planning, designing, and building resilient and prosperous communities in Canada and across the world.

Following the meetings on Parliament Hill, ACEC-Canada members gathered for an evening of celebrations at the Canadian Consulting Engineering Awards (CCEA) gala. Several MPs joined the festivities, networking with award winners and industry leaders from their ridings.

The announcement was made at the ACEC AGM held on October 11, 2023.

Currently, Ms. Desgroseilliers’ responsibilities at WSP Earth & Environment include overseeing teams that address contaminated lands, occupational health and safety, and air, noise, vibration in Manitoba, Saskatchewan and Alberta. She has Bachelor of Science degrees in Civil Engineering and Biology and is a Professional Engineer registered in Manitoba and Saskatchewan.

Allyson first joined the ACEC-Canada Board in 2018 and served as its Treasurer as well as chair of its Planning and Governance Committees. She is also a past-chair of the Association of Consulting Engineering Companies – Manitoba.

In addition to the long-standing and critical role of ACEC and its member companies in addressing economic, societal, and environmental challenges facing Canada, Allyson believes that climate change is especially important. “In light of devastating wildfires, heat waves, floods, and the incredible impact this has on our built and natural environments, it is not only urgent to address these challenges but also to ensure that we move toward a net-zero future in a sustainable and ethical way” she stated.

With respect to advocacy goals, Allyson cited the long-awaited National Infrastructure Assessment. “This will ensure a strategic and long-term approach to planning new and replacing existing infrastructure that will meet Canada’s needs. Climate change and resiliency are life-cycle challenges that require life-cycle solutions.”

ACEC President and CEO John Gamble, P.Eng., noted that “Allyson’s professional success combined with his passion for our sector will make her an effective ambassador and advocate for our industry and our association.”

The Board and staff appreciate Allyson’s continued leadership in her expanded role, and the contribution she will make towards the continued growth and success of ACEC. Join us in congratulating Allyson on her appointment.
