Last week, ACEC Florida held our annual Transportation Conference at the Rosen Centre in Orlando, Florida. It was a great event, with over 500 attendees from both the FDOT and the Private Sector. There were presentations from FDOT Secretary Jared Perdue, FDOT Assistant Secretary for Engineering and Operations Will Watts, FDOT Chief Engineer Dan Hurtado, and other FDOT staff from around the state.

ACEC Florida | FDOT Project Management & Transportation Conferences a Success

Thank you to all the speakers, sponsors, vendors, and attendees for making the 2024 ACEC Florida | FDOT Transportation and Project Management Conferences earlier this month so successful! 


Florida Department of Transportation Secretary Jared Perdue, PE, opened the Transportation conference with over 530 people attending.

Nine Projects Earn Outstanding Project Awards

Nine FDOT projects were selected for Outstanding Project Awards at the 2024 Transportation Conference held from June 6-7, 2024, in Orlando, FL.

 

Annually, ACEC Florida recognizes the outstanding achievements of members in carrying out Florida transportation studies and projects. Thirty-nine nominations were submitted from projects in FDOT’s seven districts, Florida’s Turnpike Enterprise, and the Central Office

 

The awards committee is comprised of ACEC Florida and FDOT representatives.

Congratulations to Scott D. Perfater, PE for receiving the 2024 Ben Watts Partnership Award!


Established in 2001, this award honors the individual who has made an extraordinary contribution to developing the effective partnership between the Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) and the engineering consultant community.


Scott accepted his award at the 2024 ACEC Florida Transportation Conference in Orlando last week. We are incredibly proud of Scott's dedication and hard work, which have significantly enhanced the collaboration and success of FDOT projects. His achievement is a testament to his commitment to excellence and partnership.

Gannett Fleming, Inc. Wins SBE/DBE Utilization Award

Established in 2004, this award is presented annually and recognizes the non-DBE prime consulting firm that has made the most significant use of DBE sub-consulting firms.

May 2024 BOD Meeting Highlights

The ACEC Florida Board of Directors met in Ft. Myers on May 3, 2024.


Highlights from this meeting include:


  • Approval of Annual ACEC Florida Award Recipients.
  • Approval of the 2024-2025 ACEC Florida Slate of Officers.
  • Approval of Fulcrum Forensics and Hoyle, Tanner & Associates, Inc. for membership.
  • Approval of the proposed changes to the ACEC Florida Bylaws, with the additional strike of Article II Section 1 Paragraph 2 (an electronic vote sent to the Member Firms).


The next ACEC Florida Board of Directors meeting is a virtual meeting on June 13, 2024.

ACEC Florida Goes to Washington

Florida’s consulting engineers recently participated in ACEC’s 2024 Annual Convention and Legislative Summit, a pivotal event in our industry.


The four-day event was packed with meetings and professional development opportunities and culminated in visits to Capitol Hill to share ACEC's policy priorities with our elected officials. 


Over the course of two days, a group of 10 ACEC Florida members met with 15 offices, including Congressmen Waltz, Frost, Rutherford, Gimenez, Diaz-Balart, Steube, Webster, Soto, Moskowitz, and Bean, as well as Congresswomen Frankel, Luna, Castor, and Salazar. Members also met with Senator Marco Rubio.

Moore Sworn in as Vice-Chair of ACEC

Hires, Promotions & Other Firm News

Hanson hires Crews Rudio as site civil designer/technician 


Melissa Crews Rudio, site civil designer/technician, recently joined Hanson Professional Services Inc.’s Jacksonville office. She will coordinate computer-aided design (CAD) files from subconsultants, maintain CAD standards, develop plans and 3D modeling, manage design details, train and assist employees with CAD software and conduct quality control reviews on plans and drawing files.


Prior to joining Hanson, Crews Rudio was a senior CAD designer for a civil engineering firm in Lake City. She received associate degrees from ITT Technical Institute and Florida State College at Jacksonville (FSCJ) and a bachelor’s degree in business administration from FSCJ. 

Evans joins Hanson’s Orlando regional office


Keith Evans, construction observer, recently joined Hanson Professional Services Inc.’s Orlando regional office. He will observe and document aviation projects’ construction activities for compliance with plans and specifications, coordinate and observe on-site materials testing and coordinate and communicate field construction activities with the owner, contractor and design engineers.


Evans previously was a civil engineering analyst for an engineering, planning and design consulting firm in Orlando. He received an associate degree in engineering science from Rowan College of South Jersey and a bachelor’s degree in civil and environmental engineering from Rowan University.

Seinfeld joins HNTB as Southeast Government Relations Manager


Cheryl Seinfeld has joined HNTB Corporation as government relations manager in the firm’s Southeast Division. Seinfeld will be supporting HNTB’s South Florida offices, focusing on government relations, external communications, spearheading community involvement efforts and supporting the firm’s clients in the Miami-Fort Lauderdale area.


With more than 20 years of experience in the legislative process, Seinfeld brings a keen and unique understanding of handling complex issues. In addition to managing her own government relations consulting firm, Seinfeld’s experience includes working in gubernatorial appointed positions in legislative affairs for state agencies, including the Florida Department of Transportation, District 4 in Fort Lauderdale.
