ACEware Systems Newsletter - Information to Run Your Program
Location Assignment Message
Communication of course details is so important.  Now we make it easy for you to make notes pop up in front of you when you have an important message about a location. All you need is Student Manager 8.0.062 to start putting in your messages.

The Location Assignment Message is at the bottom of the Additional Info tab of the Location screen. Whenever you assign that location to a course or on the room use screen, the message pops up.

When there is important information about a location that staff should be aware of, this is a great place to store it!

Working with Edge
We've seen some issues with IE lately and believe that Microsoft released a security update that is creating the issues with payment processing. We haven't found which setting was affected, yet, so have asked customers getting these errors to change their preferred browser. This can be done a couple of ways:
  1. On a user-by-user basis, go into  preferences and change it on the System tab (the tab opened by default). It should currently read IEAUTO and is about two thirds down the left hand portion of the screen. Hit the ... button and find the preferred browser (i.e. Chrome, Firefox, Opera, and so on).
  2. Find Gateout.ini (should be in your gatecop folder) and add a line that says BROWSER= and the path to the browser you want to use (i.e. BROWSER=C:\Program Files (x86)\Google\Chrome\Application\chrome.exe).

Neither of these options are compatible with Edge. We had to do something different in order successfully launch Edge. In Student Manager 8.0.062, you can enter a preference of EDGE. Also, we do have an update to gateout that can accept BROWSER=EDGE in your gateout.ini. If you are interested in that, just let technician know and they'll pass that along.

This is just one more option for you to use. Hopefully you don't need this one as there are a bunch of other great browsers. Also, please note that we haven't had the greatest luck with Safari, so use that one with caution.

For those of you that are having issue with IE, I am sorry for that. We will continue to work on Edge compatibility.

Only 51 days and counting until we meet in the Atlanta area for our 22nd Annual Users' Conference! Sessions are scheduled,  food has been ordered, and we have a fantastic Wednesday evening planned at Spruill Center for the Arts!

If you haven't made your hotel reservation, do that soon! The conference rate expires on May 4. Your hotel rate includes a full breakfast and an evening reception.

There's still time to join us for conference. It's the most comprehensive training you can get for your team and if your support agreement is current, you have scholarship funds to use!  Register today!

Tip of the Month: How to Watch a Good Class Disappear
I saw this blurb in a catalog from Horry-Georgetown Tech, in SC and, in our tradition of borrowing the best ideas from the field, I thought I would share.

How to Watch a Good Class Disappear
Most of our classes are cost-recovery and we need a minimum  number of students enrolled early to keep the program running.  When too many people wait until the last minute to register,  great classes taught by excellent instructors get cancelled. Don't  be disappointed - REGISTER EARLY!

I thought it a nice and creative way to encourage early registration !

Report of the Month: Membership Registration Statistics
Do you offer memberships? Have you ever wondered how many registrations were generated by current members and the average number of registrations per member? Well look no further than the statistical reporting area in Student Manager 8.0.062!  Here's how it works:
  • First, ask your technician for a copy of the report titled, "Total and average registrations per member."
  • After importing the files, you'll find it in in Reports >> Statistics >> Names >> Demographic Summary.
  • Select Membership Codes from the dropdown list, uncheck the Summary report only box, and select Additional Reports.
  • After clicking OK, you'll be prompted to select your report.
  • Your query will need to reference the membership expiration date so that you only report on current members (interest code add date is within a range of dates), and it will also need to look for just membership codes (interest code identifier exactly matches "M"). If you don't already have a query like this, ask your technician for assistance creating one.
  • After the query runs, you'll be prompted to select whether you also want to report on the total amount due, the total amount paid, or just skip the money. Be sure to skip the  money.
Your report will look something like this:

Note that if you offer multiple memberships, you'll see data for each membership as well as a grand total for all memberships.

Happy reporting!
