Coordinating Criminal and Civil Justice as a Means of Recovery for Fraud Victims

Is it reasonable for fraud victims to rely on police prosecutions and criminal restitution orders as a means to recovering their lost money? The short answer is no, although periodically partially recoveries do occur. This blog explains what fraud victims should consider when coordinating civil recoveries with criminal complaints to police.

This bill has received Royal Assent and is or will soon become law!

What does it mean?
It amends PIPEDA to allow disclosure of personal information without the knowledge or consent of an individual for the purposes of identifying an injured/ill/deceased person, preventing, detecting or suppressing fraud, or protecting victims of financial abuse...

Our thanks to those delegates who attended the ACFI 17th Annual Fraud Conference and who were kind enough to complete our survey. The ACFI Conference Committee has, as a result of the survey, booked the 18th Annual Conference for the 2nd and 3rd of May 2016. A slight change, in that next years event will be held at 20 Toronto Street, in Toronto.
