 4 Customer Service Skills That Can Grow Your Business           

In order to grow a loyal customer base and gain referrals, there are customer service skills every handyman professional needs to master. Take a look at these tips to help you effectively communicate and grow your handyman business.
 
Display your knowledge
 
When your customers know you have a deep knowledge for what you are doing and possess the skill set to complete the work, they will feel more confident. When you can convey your confidence, your customers will instantly feel comfortable. Think about it; would you prefer to hire a professional who had successfully remodeled multiple bathrooms and fully grasped what the project encompassed, or an individual who had yet to complete a bathroom renovation?
 
Communicate clearly
 
You need to show that you can communicate effectively every time you come into contact with your customer. Prior to sending an email or verbally answering a question, consider how your communication may translate to customers. As you relay information to your customers, focus on keeping it brief and clear so you leave nothing to doubt.
 
Use positive language
 
Your language is important; it sets the tone for your relationship with each and every customer. The way you respond to issues will affect how the customer feels. Use a tone that feels inviting or personal. Always be honest and focus on the positives. This is important when you are communicating with a customer via email or text instead of in person because it's more difficult to tell the tone or inflection in written form.
 
Learn to 'read' your customers
 
It's not easy, but it's important to learn how to understand your customers. You don't want to misread a customer and lose them due to miscommunication or confusion. Make sure you look and listen for any clues about your customer's feelings. Always ensure you are doing what your customer expects and more.
 
 
Make sure you prioritize customer satisfaction - after all, your customers are the lifeblood of your business and without them, you will fail. Take some time to learn and focus on these customer service skills so you can communicate effectively with your customers and ensure they are satisfied.

Have you ever video recorded your home improvements and repair skills?  Would you like to?  If so, ACHP has a video "how to links" in the Members Area that could use more member videos.  It helps others visualize correct practices and allows you to give back to our craft; "give a man a fish and he will eat for a day, teach a man to fish and he will eat for a lifetime".  Please pass your skills along to preserve what others passed to you.
