Start  2017  off on the right foot - Please check your ACHP Listing!
Many customers visit our site daily looking for a handyman. Unfortunately, some of our ACHP members have not created or submitted a listing to the directory and are losing out on good revenue.  Please log in to your ACHP account and click on "create a listing", fill in the info, then click "continue/submit" then the "submit" button on the next page to activate your listing.  Please note clicking the "save" link will not submit your listing to the directory, you must click "submit".  

Have you Renewed Your ACHP Insurance Policy But Can't Log In to the Members area?
If you recently renewed your policy and cannot access the members area, please let us know so we can activate your access and listing.  We recommend everyone login and ensure their access is still in tact and directory listing information is up to date. 

Safety warning
Winter is usually the time when the handyman works in attics, crawlspaces, basements, etc. It is also the time where spiders are interrupted by our intrusion.  Below is an email from member Dan'l Le Sage of what can happen when you get stung by a Brown Recluse Spider:

Ok , brown recluse 90% certain , spider for sure . The recovery is taking longer than anticipated . . . left side from above hip to knee has lost strength and is in constant pain or discomfort. PLEASE learn from my experience to avoid and seek treatment for spider bites . Some not much more than a mosquito bite , others like recluses and Black Widows can be seriously bad . Take a moment to Google them and know what they look like and read up on them . Teach your children . Many times , like in my case , they are in clothing and bite when the fabric is pulled taught against the body . . . . Trust me you don't want to be a victim . Insurance Updates
Lockton has added an easy "pay my bill" link for easy insurance policy renewals.  "Participants of our insurance program will still receive their yearly invoices however, we made it easier for members to renew their insurance policy invoices online" says Asst VP, Joe Perkins of Lockton.

Also,  If you have recently renewed your insurance policy with ACHP Lockton for the yr and cannot access your ACHP profile "My Account" or it's asking for payment, please contact us immediately so we can activate your account and listing.

How to Keep Your Customers Happy

If you own your own handyman business, you have a lot of people to keep happy - your employees, your clients, and your customers all are valuable parts of the success of your business. Not only do your customers provide the revenue for your business, but there is also a great sense of satisfaction that comes alongside pleasing your customer.

There are many relatively simple ways to keep your customers happy. Here are three tips to get you started.

Impress them with your quality.
This is the most obvious, and also the most important step to keeping your customers happy. Provide service that meet, or even better, exceed, their expectations. Be interested when you converse with them, always listen, and take pride in your work.
Stand behind your work with each job. Even if you give a quote that is too low, you owe it to your customers to still go the extra mile to ensure your work is held to the highest standard.

Stay connected with your customers.
You don't want to leave your customers minds because you never know when they could have a new home project they want help with.
If you have a small customer base, you can give a simple phone call to follow up on a previous job you did - that can go a long way. If you collect email addresses, you can send out emails to follow up and offer a discount.

Social media is another perfect way to connect with your customers. Use your Facebook page to share news, updates or changes in your handyman business, and share promotional offers on a regular basis.
Last but not least, an email newsletter is an ideal way to connect with customers. You can have an email written and scheduled to send to all of your customers in advance. It does take some time to get ready to go, but it's very effective.

Recognize responsibility.
It does not matter the situation; the customer is always right. This rule is one to follow and will help your business grow. Create a customer service policy to show your customers that they are always right.  Focus on phrases your company will use to make your customers happy - a personal touch will go a very long way.  Define how you will deal with unsatisfied customers to ensure there is a detailed process that all employees follow to resolve any issues. Your goal should always be to turn unhappy customers into the biggest advocates of your handyman business.
 
Always give your customers more than they expect. Over-deliver, emphasize value, and respond immediately to problems. These are all key ways to keep your customers happy with and loyal to your handyman business.

Are your Customers Able to Find You?
Our search requests continue to increase significantly.  The new search engine installed in August was indeed what the doctor ordered.  This means more and more folks are browsing our directory listings.  However, many of you have not updated your listing in a while.  In some cases, customers are having difficulties reaching you because of outdated information in your listing.  How do we know this?  Some of them are calling ACHP.  Makes us wonder how many customers are reluctant to go the extra mile thus contacting someone else with a working or displayed phone number, etc.
 
To fix this problem:
Log in to your member account and:
  1. Ensure you have access, if not contact us immediately. 
  2. Click on "My Directory Listings"  then "Edit".  Ensure your information is up to date.
  3. Enter a city, state, zip code in the display map. If not, the search engine will not be able to find you by zip code search.
Ensure your email and phone number is correct, etc.  Add more unique keywords.
