How to Develop Business Acumen
|
To reach a higher level of success, you need to develop business acumen. Business acumen is the ability to quickly understand and solve a situation in a way that will lead to a positive outcome.
Why is business acumen important?
You need to do everything you can to become as equipped as possible and be a well-rounded handyman or handywoman professional. You may have a great sense of how things run, but there's always room to grow. The more you know, the more successful you will be.
Look at these 3 strategies to develop business acumen.
Ask your customers what they want.
Essentially, you work to create a happy customer. After you acquire customers, you need to focus on how to keep them happy and ensure they refer more customers. You can ask directly about their problems, or use surveys to get the answers.
Expand your horizons.
As a handyman professional, you want to increase your exposure to the customer. Without a customer, the business won't exist for long. Take on new assignments such as helping to run an event or job shadow other people in your industry so you can learn more. These experiences will help you build a better understanding of what others do and build your business acumen.
Read more.
Reading will teach you - read books, read newspapers, read blogs and read industry-related magazines. You may feel like you don't have the time to read, but make the time. Read content that will help you better understand your industry and give you insight on new technologies or practices so you can stay relevant, build your brand and find ways to promote your services online.
Developing business acumen is sometimes a challenging process, but in order to grow your career, it's a necessity.

Many customers visit our site daily looking for a handyman. Unfortunately, some of our ACHP members have not created or submitted a listing to the directory and are losing out on good revenue. Please log in to your ACHP account and click on "create a listing", fill in the info, then click "
continue/submit" then the "
submit" button on the next page to activate your listing. Please note clicking the "save" link will not submit your listing to the directory, you must click "submit". ACHP does not nor is not a referral based company. However, ACHP allows you as a member, to use our directory listing to advertise your services.

MORE REVENUE FOR YOU! Garage Gator announces: "all ACHP Members are now eligible to install their products". Are your Customers Able to Find You?
|
Our search requests continue to increase significantly. The new search engine installed in August was indeed what the doctor ordered. This means more and more folks are browsing our directory listings. However, many of you have not updated your listing in a while. In some cases, customers are having difficulties reaching you because of outdated information in your listing. How do we know this? Some of them are calling ACHP. Makes us wonder how many customers are reluctant to go the extra mile thus contacting someone else with a working or displayed phone number, etc.
To fix this problem:
Log in to your member account and:
- Ensure you have access, if not contact us immediately.
- Click on "My Directory Listings" then "Edit". Ensure your information is up to date.
- Enter a city, state, zip code in the display map. If not, the search engine will not be able to find you by zip code search.

Ensure your email and phone number is correct, etc. Add more unique keywords.
