Have fun, lend a hand on June 28

Hi volunteers, this just in from Carol Waltz and our Event Planning Committee

A big shout out to the folks already working on our 32nd Annual Garden Tour. It’ll be the best tour ever!!

What it is: Our Garden Tour is a lot of fun. Folks with wonderful gardens open them up for a Sunday, and are on hand to answer questions. Each garden is unique: some are fancier, some more earthy—whatever that gardener focuses on. We provide a guidebook with descriptions and addresses so you can tour at your own pace. We have raffles with great prizes, too.

This wonderful quilt was handmade by Kathy Murto, who donated it as a raffle prize! Our raffle items come from local businesses and community members —yet another way to contribute as a volunteer helping animals.

What we need: We’re asking Bulletin readers help with the many little things that make this day a winner for Athens County animals. You don’t need to know about gardening; if you can sit at a table and hand out guidebooks, or be at a garden showing visitors where to park, or be a greeter, count tickets… we need you!

This is an easy and fun way to benefit animals in need.

Many thanks!

Sandy Cheeks

All the way from Bikini Bottom to your living room, Sandy Cheeks is on a mission to find her forever family and she’s bringing plenty of charm with her! With her irresistibly chunky cheeks and sweet, gentle nature, it’s easy to see how she got her name.

Sandy is the definition of easygoing. She takes life at her own relaxed pace, happy to lounge nearby, soak up affection, and keep you company without asking for much in return. Whether you’re having a quiet night in or a lazy weekend morning, she’ll be right there, adding a little extra warmth and love to your day.

Her calm demeanor makes her a wonderful fit for a variety of homes, and her affectionate personality means she bonds quickly with her people. Of course, those adorable cheeks are just the bonus, you’ll fall in love with her kind heart even faster.

If you’re looking for a laid-back, loving companion who traveled far and wide just to meet you, Sandy Cheeks is ready to settle in and make herself at home right in your heart.

Farmer Ted

Farmer Ted comes from a large colony of cats, which helped shape his unique and adaptable personality. He’s wonderfully independent but still very loving, always happy to seek out affection on his own terms. His natural curiosity keeps him exploring his surroundings and checking in on whatever you’re doing.

Ted gets along great with other cats and would likely do well in a multi-cat home. His experience with dogs is unknown, but with a proper introduction, he may adjust just fine. Overall, Farmer Ted is a charming mix of self-sufficient and sweet, a perfect companion for someone who appreciates a cat with both spirit and heart.

Fabio

Fabio is a 3-year-old gentle and quiet boy with a very sweet nature. He may be a little shy at first and will need some time to feel comfortable in a new home, but once he warms up he becomes a loving and affectionate companion. He enjoys being near his people and shows his affection in calm and subtle ways.

Fabio would do best in a peaceful home where he can settle in at his own pace. He is not a fan of dogs, but he does enjoy the company of other cats and would likely do well with a feline friend.

With a little patience, Fabio will form a strong bond and make a loyal and comforting addition to the right home.

Leo

At just 3.5 years old, Leo the Mastiff is a beautiful mix of strength and sweetness. While he may look big and rugged at first glance, his true personality is all heart. After spending much of his life outdoors, Leo has made it clear that he much prefers the comforts of indoor living. His favorite place is a cozy bed where he can relax and feel safe.

Leo has a calm and gentle nature. He enjoys walking alongside other dogs and makes a wonderful companion on quiet strolls. At home, he would likely be happiest as the only dog, soaking up all the love and attention, while still enjoying occasional walks with canine friends.

This sweet boy also loves car rides and is always happy to join you on an adventure. When it is time to settle in, Leo is all about cuddles and being close to his person.

Leo is looking for a home where he can fully enjoy the indoor life he loves, with someone who appreciates a loyal and affectionate companion.

If you are ready to welcome a big, loving dog into your life, Leo is ready to meet you!

Clark

Meet Clark, our fearless 18-week-old daredevil!

If you’ve been following our adventures, you may have seen that Clark recently fractured his growth plate during one of his “extreme sports” moments. This brave little guy was rocking a cast until mid-March, but that didn't slow his sweet spirit one bit. And now the cast is finally off, hooray!

More than daring, Clark is an easygoing, affectionate guy who would love nothing more than to find the very best forever home. He’s expected to be ready for adoption soon, and we can’t wait to see him thriving with his new family.

Cain

Cain

Cain is our longest resident, and more than anything we want to see him find a home of his own. He’s safe and loved in a foster home, but still waiting for the forever family he’s never had.

When Cain first came to us, it was clear he hadn’t known much kindness. He had spent much of his life chained outside, without the comfort every dog deserves.

Even then his loving, excited personality was waiting to shine. With time, care, and the support of his foster family, Cain has completely come into his own: he’s affectionate, eager, and full of life. He gets excited to see his people, leans in for attention, and has fully embraced the joys of indoor living (especially cozy blankets).

Cain would do best in a quiet home with no other animals, where he can truly relax and feel secure. He has so much love to give and has been waiting far too long for someone to give him a chance.

He has waited longer than any dog should. It’s his turn.

If you are interested in adoption submit an application to athenshumane.org/adopt.

The Athens County Humane Society isn’t part of, or funded by any national organization. We’re just local volunteers here to help animals.
We’ve been doing this work in Athens County since 1910.

We provide the county’s only response team for cases of animal abuse and neglect.

We care for abandoned animals, paying their vet bills, finding them shelter in foster homes, and adopting them into forever homes.

Your support for ACHS gives immediate aid to suffering animals in Ath-ens County. We need your help!
