Daisy is a happy "foster fail" | |
Bulletin readers may remember the “PuppyPocalypse” we experienced back in January: the rescued mama dog Sara who gave us a nine-puppy litter—quite a handful! That little family took over our Jacksonville clinic, and our volunteers showed up in a big way to care for them until each puppy found a loving home.
Daisy was one of those adopted pups, but her adoptive owner encountered significant life changes that forced the difficult decision to return her to our care.
Thankfully our Humane Agent, Andy McDonald, stepped up without hesitation and offered to foster her right then and there! We’re so grateful for Andy’s willingness to help Daisy when she needed it most.
Now for the best part: Andy has officially adopted Daisy! (We can call this a foster fail—the kind of fail that makes everbody happy.)
Congratulations to Andy and Daisy on finding each other!
| | Speaking of Andy McDonald, he’s now driving a new work vehicle. ACHS has purchased a 2019 Subaru Ascent to replace our former Humane Agent truck that finally served its last animal rescue call. | | |
On Saturday, August 1, Athens Veterinary Clinic celebrated the grand opening of its beautiful new facility! Friends, coworkers, clients, and ACHS volunteers gathered to help mark this exciting milestone.
If you didn’t already know, Dr. Aanestad is the veterinarian of record for Athens County Humane Society. So much of what ACHS is able to accomplish simply wouldn’t be possible without him and his incredible team.
Each month, Dr. Aanestad performs surgeries at our spay/neuter clinic in Jacksonville, often spaying or neutering 30-35 animals in a single day. His team also plays a vital role in assisting with large animal intakes for both ACHS and the Athens County Dog Shelter.
We are incredibly grateful for their dedication and are thrilled to see the continued success of this outstanding team. Congratulations to everyone at Athens Veterinary Clinic on this exciting new chapter. We can’t wait to see all the great things to come!
If you stopped by the grand opening, you may have been greeted by two special ACHS ambassadors: Tim and Al! These adorable kittens aren’t quite ready for adoption yet, but they certainly enjoyed meeting everyone who came out to celebrate.

Oh my, Violet is sure to capture your heart. She fought Panluek and WON. She is 14 weeks old and purrs every chance she can get.
She and her siblings are full of kitten antics and Violet leads the pack, jumping onto high spaces and running around like the devil’s after her. She will meet you at the door, sleep with you if you let her (please let her) and follows you from room to room.
You can’t go wrong with Violet. She would love another kitten (maybe one of her siblings?) or a cat to play with and we think she would adjust to most any household with proper acclimation and introductions.

Beautiful Glen is an adventurous guy but also loves some cuddles. We discovered he is camera shy and may think it steals his soul. He’s got a great one so can’t blame him for being careful. Glen has done well with other cats and is about 1 year old.
Most cats will adjust to any household with proper acclimation and introductions.

Bennie is about 14 weeks old and is the brother to Violet and Jessie. They all survived PanLuek like champs but little Bennie does have a wobble now. It’s cute and it means he won’t jump up on your counters. Think of the names you could come up with – weebles wobble but they don’t fall down.
He loves to be held, purrs when you look at him and loves toys.

Milo's toughest days are finally behind him.
When he came into our care, he was suffering from severe neglect. His right front paw was badly infected and beyond saving. After receiving lifesaving care, his leg had to be amputated, but today Milo is healthy, healed, and proving that three legs don't slow him down one bit.
At around 6 years old, Milo is a gentle, easygoing sweetheart. He loves a soft bed, enjoys being petted, is completely house-trained, and gets along well with other dogs. His favorite activities include naps, good meals, and soaking up affection.
Milo has overcome so much and asks for very little in return, just a safe, loving home.
Could you be the happy ending this sweet boy has been waiting for?

Coco is an 11-week-old sweetheart with a story that started high above the ground. She and her siblings were rescued from a tree on campus when they were only about 2 weeks old. From the very beginning, Coco proved to be an easy, lovable kitten, making life a breeze for her foster family.
This beautiful girl has grown into a playful, affectionate kitten who is ready to find a family of her own. Coco is litter box trained, well-mannered, and every bit the perfect little lady. She enjoys playtime, cuddles, and exploring the world around her with curiosity and confidence.
After getting such a strong start thanks to her rescuers and foster family, Coco is ready for the next chapter of her life: a forever home filled with love, comfort, and plenty of toys.

Fern is a sweet ~2 year old girl who is looking for a calm, low-key home to call her own. This gorgeous brown tabby would love to be the queen of the castle and would do best as the only cat in the home.
Fern enjoys the simple things in life, curling up in a comfy bed, lounging in a cat tree, and spending quiet time with her people. She would make a wonderful companion for someone looking for a gentle and peaceful feline friend.

Cain is our longest resident, and more than anything we want to see him find a home of his own. He’s safe and loved in a foster home, but still waiting for the forever family he’s never had.
When Cain first came to us, it was clear he hadn’t known much kindness. He had spent much of his life chained outside, without the comfort every dog deserves.
Even then his loving, excited personality was waiting to shine. With time, care, and the support of his foster family, Cain has completely come into his own: he’s affectionate, eager, and full of life. He gets excited to see his people, leans in for attention, and has fully embraced the joys of indoor living (especially cozy blankets).
Cain would do best in a quiet home with no other animals, where he can truly relax and feel secure. He has so much love to give and has been waiting far too long for someone to give him a chance.
He has waited longer than any dog should. It’s his turn.

The Athens County Humane Society isn’t part of, or funded by any national organization. We’re just local volunteers here to help animals. We’ve been doing this work in Athens County since 1910.
We provide the county’s only response team for cases of animal abuse and neglect.
We care for abandoned animals, paying their vet bills, finding them shelter in foster homes, and adopting them into forever homes.
Your support for ACHS gives immediate aid to suffering animals in Ath-ens County. We need your help!
