Our Dec. 21 adoption event at Friendly Paws was special: we were excited to partner with Copper’s Landing Animal Sanctuary out of Coolville. Ken and Amy Ryan, the founders of Copper’s Landing, brought adoptable cats, and one was adopted!

Three of our cats found their forever homes at this event, too! These events are working, folks—cats in need are finding folks who love them.

We’re grateful for this collaboration with Copper’s Landing, and hope it becomes a long-lasting partnership! 

Thanks to Shelley Lieberman of Friendly Paws for hosting these events, and to ACHS volunteer and board member Carol Waltz for helping to make our Adoption Events so successful. In 2026, Carol’s focus is on volunteer coordinating and event planning, and Danny McVicker will help Mary Connolly manage adoptions.

Rascal clinic cancelled but…

The Rascal Unit is a traveling veterinary hospital that serves all of Ohio. We rely on their services regularly for clinics here in Athens County.

Unfortunately our December Rascal Clinic was canceled due to harsh weather. But the need was there, so the following weekend Dr. Aanestad and our dedicated volunteers rallied to hold an in-house clinic.

Together, we were able to care for 19 animals. Five of those patients came from a hoarding case where a good Samaritan stepped in to help the animals’ owner. There are so many really nice people in the world, y’know? 

Dusk is adopted!

You might remember the kittens in our care who bravely fought and defeated feline panleukopenia virus: Dusk and his sister Raven.

We’re thrilled to share that Dusk found his forever home last week—he’s been adopted!

Now it’s Raven’s turn: she’s officially available for adoption and will be heading to PetSmart in hopes of finding her forever family soon.

Virginia Slim

Virginia Slim is a little sweetheart. She came in with Misty will be getting spayed on Jan. 10 and available for adoption soon after. She’s less than 4 months old.

Sarah

Sarah and Savannah are a bonded pair, who need to stay together. They’re 7 months old and very, very friendly. They’ll make won-derful lap cats but they’re fiercely independent: they’ll decide when it’s lap time and don’t want to be picked up! :)

Joann

Joann is 6 months old and was found on the highway near the East State Street exit in Athens. She had a badly injured tail which had to be amputated, poor thing. But she’s recovered well. Joann’s a sweet girl who gets along with other cats and dogs.
