A great Garden Tour!

Sundey’s Garden Tour saw a great turnout. The sky was cloudy but rain-free, and we raised more donations to help animals than in any previous year!

This year the Athens Art Guild partnered with ACHS, displaying artwork of all kinds for sale beside Mansfield House, which is the new home of their organization.

The Art Guild’s involvement added add interesting new elements this year, and the Guild will judge entries to select a winner in our first-ever Garden Tour Photo Contest

Klaerfield Gardens and all the gardens on the tour gave visitors the chance to learn directly from the gardeners themselves.

Milo's happy and ready for a home.

Milo’s tough times are over. When we received Milo, the abuse he’d suffered was clearly extreme. His right front paw was swollen, decaying, and too painful to walk on. He had crawled to a neighbor’s house for help.

We got help for him at Athens Veterinary Clinic. His paw had gone too long without care, and unfortunately his leg had to be amputated to save his life. Meanwhile we went to court to make sure he won’t be returned to that owner.

Now things are looking up! His surgery has healed, his stitches are out, and he’s smiling — and doing great on three legs. Milo is an older gentleman (about 14), who likes to nap in his soft bed, loves to be petted, is completely house-trained, eats happily, and gets along sweetly with the other dogs where he’s been fostering. (Thanks to volunteer Sue Erlewine for fostering him during his post-op recovery.)

It’s time to find Milo a forever home. Who do you know that would love to share smiles with this calm, wonderful guy?

Fireworks freakout?

Is your dog panicked by July 4th noise? Did you know there are ear protectors that shield dogs from loud sounds? Google “dog ear muffs” and you’ll see a LOT of options!

Coco

Coco is a 9-week-old sweetheart with a story that started high above the ground. She and her siblings were rescued from a tree on campus when they were only about 2 weeks old. From the very beginning, Coco proved to be an easy, lovable kitten, making life a breeze for her foster family.

This beautiful girl has grown into a playful, affectionate kitten who is ready to find a family of her own. Coco is litter box trained, well-mannered, and every bit the perfect little lady. She enjoys playtime, cuddles, and exploring the world around her with curiosity and confidence.

After getting such a strong start thanks to her rescuers and foster family, Coco is ready for the next chapter of her life: a forever home filled with love, comfort, and plenty of toys.

The Purr Monster

Despite her name, The Purr Monster is a sweet and gentle 1-year-old girl looking for a quiet home of her own. She spent much of her young life outdoors and came into our care after becoming pregnant as a stray. Still little more than a kitten herself, she wasn't quite sure how to be a mom, but she did her best.

The Purr Monster can be shy at first, but with patience and kindness, she begins to show her loving nature. She is looking for a family that will give her the time she needs to feel safe and secure.

After a difficult start to life, this deserving girl is ready to trade life on the streets for a warm bed, full belly, and a forever home.

Cain

Cain is our longest resident, and more than anything we want to see him find a home of his own. He’s safe and loved in a foster home, but still waiting for the forever family he’s never had.

When Cain first came to us, it was clear he hadn’t known much kindness. He had spent much of his life chained outside, without the comfort every dog deserves.

Even then his loving, excited personality was waiting to shine. With time, care, and the support of his foster family, Cain has completely come into his own: he’s affectionate, eager, and full of life. He gets excited to see his people, leans in for attention, and has fully embraced the joys of indoor living (especially cozy blankets).

Cain would do best in a quiet home with no other animals, where he can truly relax and feel secure. He has so much love to give and has been waiting far too long for someone to give him a chance.

He has waited longer than any dog should. It’s his turn.

Fern

Fern is a sweet ~2 year old girl who is looking for a calm, low-key home to call her own. This gorgeous brown tabby would love to be the queen of the castle and would do best as the only cat in the home.

Fern enjoys the simple things in life, curling up in a comfy bed, lounging in a cat tree, and spending quiet time with her people. She would make a wonderful companion for someone looking for a gentle and peaceful feline friend.

Milo

Milo's toughest days are finally behind him.

When he came into our care, he was suffering from severe neglect. His right front paw was badly infected and beyond saving. After receiving lifesaving care, his leg had to be amputated, but today Milo is healthy, healed, and proving that three legs don't slow him down one bit.

At around 13-14 years old, Milo is a gentle, easygoing gentleman. He loves a soft bed, enjoys being petted, is completely house-trained, and gets along well with other dogs. His favorite activities include naps, good meals, and soaking up affection.

Milo has overcome so much and asks for very little in return, just a safe, loving home where he can enjoy his golden years.

Could you be the happy ending this sweet boy has been waiting for?

The Athens County Humane Society isn’t part of, or funded by any national organization. We’re just local volunteers here to help animals.
We’ve been doing this work in Athens County since 1910.

We provide the county’s only response team for cases of animal abuse and neglect.

We care for abandoned animals, paying their vet bills, finding them shelter in foster homes, and adopting them into forever homes.

Your support for ACHS gives immediate aid to suffering animals in Ath-ens County. We need your help!
