Little Bit likes to relax

Little Bit is a diva—the ultimate Golden Girl! She’s been through tough times and is now ready for a quiet retirement life.

Little Bit is a bright spot in her foster home. Always happy, she bounces around when her foster mom comes home, and races about the yard when she’s fired up. She loves car rides and gentle walks. She’s a professional napper and snuggler, and does well with her cat and dog foster siblings (although she gets a bit cantankerous and snips at them when food is involved or when they get too boisterous playing). For this reason she would likely not do well in a home with very small children. If she has a sibling in her forever home, Little Bit asks that they be respectful and fairly quiet dogs and cats who can take a hint when enough is enough.

Little Bit came to ACHS with a large mammary mass and some serious dental disease. After surgery, biopsies showed the mass was cancerous. She takes daily medication to slow its progression and is showing no ill effects. She also had a painful mouth that is greatly improved by the dental work provided in ACHS’s care. Even after that dental work her oronasal fistulas cause her to sneeze.

She’s mostly housebroken but does occasionally have accidents, so she needs someone patient who will help her by letting her out frequently and understanding when she doesn’t quite get it perfect.

This little gal has so much love to give! Little Bit is ready to be someone’s perfect companion!

Milo's meeting and greeting

At the Athens Farmer’s Market on Wednesday, Milo The 3-Legged Wonderdog met a lot of young grade-schoolers and loved having them pet his fluffy coat. Saturday at the market, Milo joined the other wonderful dogs at the meet-and-greet arranged by the Friends of the Shelter Dogs. This calm, happy guy likes meeting people.

Milo loves walks, but getting around on three legs is new so short walks are best. He spends most of his time resting in his bed or outdoors in the shade under a hedge.

You probably know Milo’s story: coming from an abusive situation and a lack of veterinary care that led to the loss of his right front leg. That’s in the rearview mirror now and he’s recovered and enjoying life.

Naturally, Milo’s looking for a forever home. In the meantime, he needs a place to foster, since his current foster family’s traveling out of town this week. Know anybody?

Helping dogs is a BIG part of our mission, but we’re equally dedicated to helping cats, as the image in our logo suggests…

ACHS helps ALL animals, making our work essential to every animal lover in Athens County. Just think of the logo possibilities!

ACHS began in 1910. Volunteers, you’re part of a team that’s woven into our county’s history for well over 100 years.

Coco

Coco is a 10-week-old sweetheart with a story that started high above the ground. She and her siblings were rescued from a tree on campus when they were only about 2 weeks old. From the very beginning, Coco proved to be an easy, lovable kitten, making life a breeze for her foster family.

This beautiful girl has grown into a playful, affectionate kitten who is ready to find a family of her own. Coco is litter box trained, well-mannered, and every bit the perfect little lady. She enjoys playtime, cuddles, and exploring the world around her with curiosity and confidence.

After getting such a strong start thanks to her rescuers and foster family, Coco is ready for the next chapter of her life: a forever home filled with love, comfort, and plenty of toys.

Cain

Cain

Cain is our longest resident, and more than anything we want to see him find a home of his own. He’s safe and loved in a foster home, but still waiting for the forever family he’s never had.

When Cain first came to us, it was clear he hadn’t known much kindness. He had spent much of his life chained outside, without the comfort every dog deserves.

Even then his loving, excited personality was waiting to shine. With time, care, and the support of his foster family, Cain has completely come into his own: he’s affectionate, eager, and full of life. He gets excited to see his people, leans in for attention, and has fully embraced the joys of indoor living (especially cozy blankets).

Cain would do best in a quiet home with no other animals, where he can truly relax and feel secure. He has so much love to give and has been waiting far too long for someone to give him a chance.

He has waited longer than any dog should. It’s his turn.

Milo

Milo's toughest days are finally behind him.

When he came into our care, he was suffering from severe neglect. His right front paw was badly infected and beyond saving. After receiving lifesaving care, his leg had to be amputated, but today Milo is healthy, healed, and proving that three legs don't slow him down one bit.

At around 6 years old, Milo is a gentle, easygoing sweetheart. He loves a soft bed, enjoys being petted, is completely house-trained, and gets along well with other dogs. His favorite activities include naps, good meals, and soaking up affection.

Milo has overcome so much and asks for very little in return, just a safe, loving home.

Could you be the happy ending this sweet boy has been waiting for?

Fern

Fern is a sweet ~2 year old girl who is looking for a calm, low-key home to call her own. This gorgeous brown tabby would love to be the queen of the castle and would do best as the only cat in the home.

Fern enjoys the simple things in life, curling up in a comfy bed, lounging in a cat tree, and spending quiet time with her people. She would make a wonderful companion for someone looking for a gentle and peaceful feline friend.
