Beautiful chaos and Endora Twinkletoes

If you’ve ever been to one of our spay/neuter clinics, you’ve seen the “controlled chaos!”

There’s the hustle of intake, then prepping cats for surgery, and handling the occasional truly feral TNR patient. Spending hours in the toasty recovery room, monitoring patients after surgery—there’s never a dull moment.

From start to finish, it’s often a 13-hour day of hard work, teamwork, and memorable moments.

Last weekend we had 33 patients at our clinic. As volunteers found their roles everyone worked together, and despite the whirlwind of activity one thing remained constant: quality of care was always top priority.

Every so often in the middle of all that chaos, we’re gifted a tiny patient who reminds us why we do what we do. A little face, a tiny purr, or a moment of sweetness that gives everyone a much-needed second wind.

Volunteer Chad Keller with Endora Twinkletoes.

At our most recent clinic, that little bit of magic came in the form of Endora Twinkletoes. This tiniest little girl stole hearts and gave us just the boost we needed to keep pushing through the long day.

These clinics take an incredible amount of dedication, patience, and compassion from every person involved. We’re so grateful for our volunteers who show up, roll up their sleeves, and give their all to every patient, big or small. Sometimes, all it takes is one tiny set of twinkle toes to remind us that every long hour is worth it.

Thank you to Heather Norman who kept Endora safe until we could get her to her temporary foster home.

True North Sanctuary

I had the pleasure of visiting True North Sanctuary on Ervin Road in Athens last Monday and spent time with several of its animal residents.

Matt Schultz founded this sanctuary, growing from the love he shared with his dog, Tucker, and his desire to turn that love into something meaningful for other animals. He is working to create a safe, compassionate place for animals in need, with a focus on rescue, rehabilitation, adoption, and lifelong sanctuary care.

Hearing more about Matt’s vision for the sanctuary and the future of animal welfare in our community was truly inspiring. His plans are exciting, and we can’t wait to work with him!

The sanctuary has already welcomed its first residents and is preparing to expand its capacity. Beyond animal care, Matt shared the vision of a place that brings people and animals together. His future goals include supporting spay and neuter efforts and developing community programs that benefit both animals and people.

Like many growing animal welfare organizations, True North will rely on community support to make its vision possible. Donations, supplies, and volunteer involvement can all help the sanctuary grow and reach more animals in need.

We’re excited about the possibilities ahead and look forward to working alongside Matt and True North Sanctuary to make a difference for animals throughout Athens County. We’re grateful for people who turn their love for animals into meaningful action and are excited to see this vision continue to grow.

Glen

Here's Glen! He's a great all-around guy who enjoys playtime and cuddletime! Glen is about 2 years old and is used to being around other cats, so he'd probably prefer another feline friend. He is currently sharing space with his fostermate, Gale, who's also available for adoption. He's adjusted well in his foster home. Glen is super affectionate and loves to lounge on his foster mom's lap. He's an easy-going cat and not demanding. That said, he has energy, and Glen is always up for chasing a laser or batting around a ping pong ball. He's a beautiful boy with the cutest pink ears!

He has good manners and always uses his litter box and scratching post. He's smaller than most male cats, doesn't mind being held, and likes a nice belly rub! What a charmer he is!

Emma Gatewood

Little Miss Emma Gatewood is the sweetest kitten you will ever meet! She loves to be held, coddled, and pet, and will start up her purr engine the moment she sees you! She loves to play with her kitten roommates, but is always down to cuddle up for a nap.

Emma is thriving in foster care and can't wait to find her forever home!

Chippy

Chippy is a very sweet 10-month-old boy who was found with a badly injured leg and tail. We brought him into our care, got him fixed up, and he has been nothing but a sweetheart ever since.

This resilient little guy is ready for his forever home.

You can currently meet Chippy at Friendly Paws Pets & Grooming Supplies!

Benedict

Benedict and his brother Simon came to us as tiny babies this winter alongside their mom. Simon recently got adopted, so now Benedict is the last of their litter still waiting for a forever home!

Benedict is playful, loving, and full of puppy charm. He would make wonderful companion and is ready to find a family of his own.

Little Bit

Meet the ultimate golden girl, Little Bit!

This sweet senior has been through a lot at approximately 12 years old, including surgery for a cancerous mammary mass and a much-needed dental. She takes daily medication to slow the cancer’s progression and is currently feeling great. She does have persistent oronasal fistulas, which can make her prone to sneezing.

Little Bit is a happy, loving girl who enjoys car rides, gentle walks, naps, snuggles and the occasional zoomie! She does well with cats and dogs, but prefers calm, respectful companions and would do best without very young children.

She’s mostly housebroken but needs frequent potty breaks and a little patience when accidents happen.

This little ween has so much love to give and is ready for someone to spoil her!

Al

Al is a super social, easygoing 14-week-old guy who seems to believe that everyone is a potential friend. He loves playing with other cats and would do best in a home with another playful, social cat who can keep him company and join in on the fun.

When it comes to dogs, Al approaches things with a little cautious optimism. He’s curious and willing to give them a chance, especially when introductions are thoughtful and gradual.

Al had a rough start to life, but luckily, he didn’t have to navigate it for long. He was quickly scooped up by some amazing fosters who gave him the safety, care, and time he needed to flourish. And flourish he has!

Today, Al is a happy, playful, social guy who is ready for a forever home where he can keep being his wonderful self. If you already have a playful feline looking for a buddy, Al might be just the friend they’ve been waiting for.

Bennie

Bennie is about 20 weeks old and is the brother to Violet and Jessie. They all survived PanLuek like champs but little Bennie does have a wobble now. It’s cute and it means he won’t jump up on your counters. Think of the names you could come up with – weebles wobble but they don’t fall down.

He loves to be held, purrs when you look at him and loves toys.

Gayle

Pretty girl Gayle has some really unique markings and adorable little white feet. She loves to explore and check everything out in her space. Gayle seems pretty chill and is about 1 year old.

Violet

Oh my, Violet is sure to capture your heart. She fought Panluek and WON. She is 20 weeks old and purrs every chance she can get.

She and her siblings are full of kitten antics and Violet leads the pack, jumping onto high spaces and running around like the devil’s after her. She will meet you at the door, sleep with you if you let her (please let her) and follows you from room to room.

You can’t go wrong with Violet. She would love another kitten (maybe one of her siblings?) or a cat to play with and we think she would adjust to most any household with proper acclimation and introductions.

Cain

Cain

Cain is our longest resident, and more than anything we want to see him find a home of his own. He’s safe and loved in a foster home, but still waiting for the forever family he’s never had.

When Cain first came to us, it was clear he hadn’t known much kindness. He had spent much of his life chained outside, without the comfort every dog deserves.

Even then his loving, excited personality was waiting to shine. With time, care, and the support of his foster family, Cain has completely come into his own: he’s affectionate, eager, and full of life. He gets excited to see his people, leans in for attention, and has fully embraced the joys of indoor living (especially cozy blankets).

Cain would do best in a quiet home with no other animals, where he can truly relax and feel secure. He has so much love to give and has been waiting far too long for someone to give him a chance.

He has waited longer than any dog should. It’s his turn.

We’ve been doing this work in Athens County since 1910.

We provide the county’s only response team for cases of animal abuse and neglect.

We care for abandoned animals, paying their vet bills, finding them shelter in foster homes, and adopting them into forever homes.
