Cat Video Fest was a sold-out hit!!

LIGHTS! POPCORN! KITTIES!

Last Saturday, ACHS hosted Cat Video Fest 2026 at the Athena Cinema. This is our first time doing this event, and we scheduled just one matinee— WHOOPS! We sold every seat and there were still more folks wanting to see the show. Let’s do it again next year, and add another showing.

Thank you to the ACHS Events Committee and the Athena for this Big Fun! Extra thanks to the Bobcats who joined us from the All 9 Lives student organization at O.U.

Meet Jade Mourn

We’re excited to introduce Jade Mourn, founder of Nelsonville Community TNR & Rescue, to our Humane Society volunteers! Jade is a passionate advocate for Nelsonville’s community cats, dedicating her time, energy, and heart to ensuring these often-overlooked animals receive the care they need.

Jade began her rescue efforts by helping a few stray cats around town. What started as a small act of kindness has grown into a mission to trap, neuter, and return (TNR) community cats, provide food and veterinary care, and find loving homes for cats and kittens whenever possible.

Since July, Jade estimates that she has helped spay and neuter 33 cats from Nelsonville, working with several local veterinarians, including our very own clinic in Jacksonville. This past weekend, Jade volunteered at our clinic, where 32 cats were spayed or neutered, including three from her list of Nelsonville community cats. Her dedication is a wonderful example of the impact one committed individual can make when compassion meets action!

As many of us know, Nelsonville has a significant population of free-roaming cats. Managing that population is no small task. TNR requires time, patience, persistence, and a tremendous amount of effort. With female cats capable of having multiple litters each year, the work can sometimes feel overwhelming. Progress may be gradual, but every cat spayed or neutered helps prevent future litters and moves the community closer to a healthier, more manageable cat population.

Beyond her rescue work, Jade is a mom and a Business Administration student, balancing motherhood, school, and her commitment to animal welfare. Nelsonville Community TNR & Rescue operates through community donations, so every contribution helps Jade do more. Donations support trapping supplies, veterinary expenses, food, and the ongoing care and protection of Nelsonville’s cats.

Jade’s work is rooted in the belief that every life matters. Whether she’s trapping cats, coordinating veterinary care, feeding community cats, or helping kittens find homes, she is making a meaningful difference for animals who might otherwise go without help.

We’re grateful for Jade’s dedication to community cats and for the time she gave to our clinic this weekend. Her efforts reflect the mission we all share: improving animal welfare, preventing unwanted litters, and giving vulnerable animals a better chance at life.

Please join us in recognizing Jade and thanking her for all she does for Nelsonville’s cats! We’re proud to see community members, rescue organizations, and veterinary teams working together to make a difference, one cat at a time.

Glen

Here's Glen! He's a great all-around guy who enjoys playtime and cuddletime! Glen is about 2 years old and is used to being around other cats, so he'd probably prefer another feline friend. He is currently sharing space with his fostermate, Gale, who's also available for adoption. He's adjusted well in his foster home. Glen is super affectionate and loves to lounge on his foster mom's lap. He's an easy-going cat and not demanding. That said, he has energy, and Glen is always up for chasing a laser or batting around a ping pong ball. He's a beautiful boy with the cutest pink ears!

He has good manners and always uses his litter box and scratching post. He's smaller than most male cats, doesn't mind being held, and likes a nice belly rub! What a charmer he is!

Tostada

Meet Tostada!

This sweet little guy has a special talent for making friends, even with the pickiest of cats! He came into our care with healing injuries, including a fractured pelvis and leg, but he hasn’t let that slow him down one bit.

Tostada is ready to find his forever home, preferably one with another friendly feline to be his buddy.

Think Tostada might be the perfect addition to your family? Apply to adopt at athenshumane.org/adopt.

Chippy

Chippy is a very sweet 10-month-old boy who was found with a badly injured leg and tail. We brought him into our care, got him fixed up, and he has been nothing but a sweetheart ever since.

This resilient little guy is ready for his forever home.

You can currently meet Chippy at Friendly Paws Pets & Grooming Supplies!

Benedict

Benedict and his brother Simon came to us as tiny babies this winter alongside their mom. Simon recently got adopted, so now Benedict is the last of their litter still waiting for a forever home!

Benedict is playful, loving, and full of puppy charm. He would make wonderful companion and is ready to find a family of his own.

Little Bit

Meet the ultimate golden girl, Little Bit!

This sweet senior has been through a lot at approximately 12 years old, including surgery for a cancerous mammary mass and a much-needed dental. She takes daily medication to slow the cancer’s progression and is currently feeling great. She does have persistent oronasal fistulas, which can make her prone to sneezing.

Little Bit is a happy, loving girl who enjoys car rides, gentle walks, naps, snuggles and the occasional zoomie! She does well with cats and dogs, but prefers calm, respectful companions and would do best without very young children.

She’s mostly housebroken but needs frequent potty breaks and a little patience when accidents happen.

This little ween has so much love to give and is ready for someone to spoil her!

Al

Al is a super social, easygoing 14-week-old guy who seems to believe that everyone is a potential friend. He loves playing with other cats and would do best in a home with another playful, social cat who can keep him company and join in on the fun.

When it comes to dogs, Al approaches things with a little cautious optimism. He’s curious and willing to give them a chance, especially when introductions are thoughtful and gradual.

Al had a rough start to life, but luckily, he didn’t have to navigate it for long. He was quickly scooped up by some amazing fosters who gave him the safety, care, and time he needed to flourish. And flourish he has!

Today, Al is a happy, playful, social guy who is ready for a forever home where he can keep being his wonderful self. If you already have a playful feline looking for a buddy, Al might be just the friend they’ve been waiting for.

Bennie

Bennie is about 20 weeks old and is the brother to Violet and Jessie. They all survived PanLuek like champs but little Bennie does have a wobble now. It’s cute and it means he won’t jump up on your counters. Think of the names you could come up with – weebles wobble but they don’t fall down.

He loves to be held, purrs when you look at him and loves toys.

Gayle

Pretty girl Gayle has some really unique markings and adorable little white feet. She loves to explore and check everything out in her space. Gayle seems pretty chill and is about 1 year old.

Violet

Oh my, Violet is sure to capture your heart. She fought Panluek and WON. She is 20 weeks old and purrs every chance she can get.

She and her siblings are full of kitten antics and Violet leads the pack, jumping onto high spaces and running around like the devil’s after her. She will meet you at the door, sleep with you if you let her (please let her) and follows you from room to room.

You can’t go wrong with Violet. She would love another kitten (maybe one of her siblings?) or a cat to play with and we think she would adjust to most any household with proper acclimation and introductions.

Emma Gatewood

Little Miss Emma Gatewood is the sweetest kitten you will ever meet! She loves to be held, coddled, and pet, and will start up her purr engine the moment she sees you! She loves to play with her kitten roommates, but is always down to cuddle up for a nap.

Emma is thriving in foster care and can't wait to find her forever home!

Cain

Cain

Cain is our longest resident, and more than anything we want to see him find a home of his own. He’s safe and loved in a foster home, but still waiting for the forever family he’s never had.

When Cain first came to us, it was clear he hadn’t known much kindness. He had spent much of his life chained outside, without the comfort every dog deserves.

Even then his loving, excited personality was waiting to shine. With time, care, and the support of his foster family, Cain has completely come into his own: he’s affectionate, eager, and full of life. He gets excited to see his people, leans in for attention, and has fully embraced the joys of indoor living (especially cozy blankets).

Cain would do best in a quiet home with no other animals, where he can truly relax and feel secure. He has so much love to give and has been waiting far too long for someone to give him a chance.

He has waited longer than any dog should. It’s his turn.
