Chats with cats in hats!

Another successful and seriously fun Adoption Event last weekend at Friendly Paws!

On the 1st and 3rd Sunday of each month, Shelley Lieberman opens her store for everyone to drop in and visit with ACHS adoptable cats.

While it’s not quite Halloween yet, we couldn’t help ourselves from celebrating a little early. There was a dress code, and our adoptable cats came prepared! (There is still some debate about whether they were entirely happy to participate.)

Of course, the adoptions are always the best part, but one of our favorite things about these events is getting to see old friends and meet new ones.

A huge thank you to our amazing volunteers who make these events possible, to Shelley for providing the space, and to everyone who stopped by to say hi. Thanks for sharing your stories with us.

We’re so grateful for this wonderful community and can’t wait for our next Adoption Event!

Tucker needs a foster

What does fostering involve?

The ACHS Volunteer Network includes wonderful people who take care of animals temporarily—between their rescue and their forever families.

Occasionally, these animals are on a medical hold, such as when they’re recovering from surgery.

When you foster for ACHS, you don’t have to pay for the animal’s expenses. ACHS covers veterinary bills, and can provide or reimburse you for the supplies you need.

If you already have animals at home, that’s okay! As long as your pets are current on their vet-recommended flea, tick, and heartworm prevention, you can provide a safe place for a foster animal.

For your household, it’s a short-term visitor. For the rescued animal, it’s a life-changing turning point.

Is fostering something you can do to help animals in need? If so, call and leave a message for Mary Connolly at 740-592-6047 or email info@athenshumane.org. Thank you!

Here's Tucker:

This little guy is about 10 months old, weighs 32 pounds, and is extremely sweet. Tucker loves other dogs, so it would be great if his foster home happens to include a doggy friend!

Tucker’s recovering from demodetic mange.

This means the poor guy is really, really itchy. But he’s taking his meds and his skin is clearing up. He’s not a risk to you or your pets, especially if they are current on flea, tick and heartworm. And he’ll be feeling great again soon.

Tucker will really, really want to be your friend--that’s just how he is. But we’re not asking for a forever home, just a safe, cozy place to stay while he gets better. Then he’ll be ready to adopt, and launched into the next chapter of his story.

Can you give him that safe place for awhile?

Emma Gatewood

Little Miss Emma Gatewood is the sweetest kitten you will ever meet! She loves to be held, coddled, and pet, and will start up her purr engine the moment she sees you! She loves to play with her kitten roommates, but is always down to cuddle up for a nap.

Emma is thriving in foster care and can't wait to find her forever home!

Little Bit

Meet the ultimate golden girl, Little Bit!

This sweet senior has been through a lot at approximately 12 years old, including surgery for a cancerous mammary mass and a much-needed dental. She takes daily medication to slow the cancer’s progression and is currently feeling great. She does have persistent oronasal fistulas, which can make her prone to sneezing.

Little Bit is a happy, loving girl who enjoys car rides, gentle walks, naps, snuggles and the occasional zoomie! She does well with cats and dogs, but prefers calm, respectful companions and would do best without very young children.

She’s mostly housebroken but needs frequent potty breaks and a little patience when accidents happen.

This little ween has so much love to give and is ready for someone to spoil her!

Chippy

Chippy is a very sweet 10-month-old boy who was found with a badly injured leg and tail. We brought him into our care, got him fixed up, and he has been nothing but a sweetheart ever since.

This resilient little guy is ready for his forever home.

You can currently meet Chippy at Friendly Paws Pets & Grooming Supplies!

Benedict

Benedict and his brother Simon came to us as tiny babies this winter alongside their mom. Simon recently got adopted, so now Benedict is the last of their litter still waiting for a forever home!

Benedict is playful, loving, and full of puppy charm. He would make wonderful companion and is ready to find a family of his own.

Cain

Cain

Cain is our longest resident, and more than anything we want to see him find a home of his own. He’s safe and loved in a foster home, but still waiting for the forever family he’s never had.

When Cain first came to us, it was clear he hadn’t known much kindness. He had spent much of his life chained outside, without the comfort every dog deserves.

Even then his loving, excited personality was waiting to shine. With time, care, and the support of his foster family, Cain has completely come into his own: he’s affectionate, eager, and full of life. He gets excited to see his people, leans in for attention, and has fully embraced the joys of indoor living (especially cozy blankets).

Cain would do best in a quiet home with no other animals, where he can truly relax and feel secure. He has so much love to give and has been waiting far too long for someone to give him a chance.

He has waited longer than any dog should. It’s his turn.

Al

Al is a super social, easygoing 13-week-old guy who seems to believe that everyone is a potential friend. He loves playing with other cats and would do best in a home with another playful, social cat who can keep him company and join in on the fun.

When it comes to dogs, Al approaches things with a little cautious optimism. He’s curious and willing to give them a chance, especially when introductions are thoughtful and gradual.

Al had a rough start to life, but luckily, he didn’t have to navigate it for long. He was quickly scooped up by some amazing fosters who gave him the safety, care, and time he needed to flourish. And flourish he has!

Today, Al is a happy, playful, social guy who is ready for a forever home where he can keep being his wonderful self. If you already have a playful feline looking for a buddy, Al might be just the friend they’ve been waiting for.

Bennie

Bennie is about 19 weeks old and is the brother to Violet and Jessie. They all survived PanLuek like champs but little Bennie does have a wobble now. It’s cute and it means he won’t jump up on your counters. Think of the names you could come up with – weebles wobble but they don’t fall down.

He loves to be held, purrs when you look at him and loves toys.

Gayle

Pretty girl Gayle has some really unique markings and adorable little white feet. She loves to explore and check everything out in her space. Gayle seems pretty chill and is about 1 year old.

Violet

Oh my, Violet is sure to capture your heart. She fought Panluek and WON. She is 19 weeks old and purrs every chance she can get.

She and her siblings are full of kitten antics and Violet leads the pack, jumping onto high spaces and running around like the devil’s after her. She will meet you at the door, sleep with you if you let her (please let her) and follows you from room to room.

You can’t go wrong with Violet. She would love another kitten (maybe one of her siblings?) or a cat to play with and we think she would adjust to most any household with proper acclimation and introductions.
