ACM is getting ready for Summer Camp!

Our 2025 SUMMER STRONG program begins in July

ACM Summer Strong 2025 runs from July 1st to August 2nd. Our "Lunch and Learn" field trips take youth to Six Flags amusement park, swimming pools, arts and crafts, local museums, public parks, and conflict resolution training. Our summer camp serves eligible youth from 7 to 15 years old. Free breakfast, lunch, and snacks are served everyday. This is an opportunity for young people in our community to grow and build connections, and to continue learning outside the classroom.

Check out last year's exciting summer adventures in the video above!

Mentorship for success:

ACM shout-out to OG Initiative Mentor Carlos Wilson and youth basketball champ Rashid Furuq of Southeast DC

Carlos Wilson of ACM's OG Initiative Violence Free Zone is a mentor to rising basketball champion 17-year-old Rashid Furuq from SE Washington, DC. Congrats to Rashid, who just recently won the DCSAA championship for Eastern High School. Carlos is so proud of the courage and fortitude Rashid shows on and off the basketball court! Rashid takes our Conflict Resolution classes at ACM and is heading to college when he graduates. According to Carlos, Rashid is a fierce team player and shoots to perfection. We celebrate him and his victories on and off the court!

Violence Free Zone - OG Initiative

Our 2025 Conflict Resolution Violence Free Zone (VFZ) Campaign seeks to expand this life-saving initiative in Southeast DC's Greenway community

The Alliance of Concerned Men (ACM) is an all-encompassing village approach to the eradication of violence for all communities, focusing on reduction, mitigation, and prevention. We strive to save lives and impact our community every day by fostering positive change.

The Greenway community is lacking in stores, businesses, restaurants, recreational centers, healthy and affordable groceries, and gas stations. ACM is committed to investing time and resources to transform this community by creating a safe environment for positive change.

ACM's Violence Free Zone (VFZ) OG Initiative follows a robust quality-of-life model, eradicating violence through successful conflict resolution, prevention, intervention, and wrap-around services with a culturally competent approach to public safety. Our focus on creating a better world is fueled by our community and a genuine love for our people.

ACM x DC Safe: Developing for Success

To stay abreast of the challenges many of our families and young adults face, we actively engage our ACM teams in professional development year-round, one of our partnerships is with DC Safe. DC Safe is the only 24/7 crisis intervention agency for domestic violence (DV) in Washington, DC. Its mission is to ensure the safety and self-determination of (DV) survivors through emergency services, court advocacy, and system reform.

According to Beverly Smith, ACM’s Administrative Operations Director who spent 30 years in the federal, state and local professional development field, “while domestic violence cases have increased in the communities we serve; it is crucial to be able to communicate with victims of domestic violence effectively and professionally with sensitivity and recommend resources that specialize in helping victims.”

We thank development instructor Kylie Hogan for her assistance.

Every month is Black History Month!

Check out these stories of inspirational American heroes from the Woodson Center

The Woodson Center has supported ACM since the beginning. Now it's released an animated series based on the Center's free K-12 Black history and character-building curriculum. These animated shorts will put students’ minds in motion like never before. Introduce them to inspiring men and women like DC's own Benjamin Banneker, home-grown scientist and early abolitionist; Robert Smalls, Civil War hero and Reconstruction-era statesman; Bessie Coleman, daredevil aviator and groundbreaking entertainer; Alice Coachman, the first Black woman in history to win Olympic gold.

ACM Hosts Visit with DC Mayor Bowser's Office

Executive Office of the Mayor (EOM) team members stopped by to observe our after-school care program

ACM recently hosted representatives from the DC Executive Office of the Mayor to meet with local students during after-school care to observe program activities like homework tutoring and games, and to discuss perspectives on attendance and absenteeism with ACM staff, along with other issues facing DC youth. The students ranged from 6th-9th grade, resulting in a spirited discussion in which young people were challenged to think about how to make their best life choices.

ACM participates in DC Peace Summit

ACM participated in a DC Peace Summit aimed at fostering cross-cultural understanding among local youth. Held at the Westminster Presbyterian Church in SW, the summit was in commemoration of the death of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. The youth participated in a panel discussion about the impact of ACM's Conflict Resolution training on the way they see their communities and the world.

Many participants also got a chance to be somewhere that wasn't familiar and be challenged by new situations; some of the youth had never been in a church and others had never been outside the Greenway neighborhood. Everyone had a great time, and the youth did an excellent job participating as panelists and audience members.

We want to hear from you!
