12th Annual Statewide Symposium in Support of Service Members, Veterans, & Their Families

It’s that time of year again…time for our Statewide Symposium in Support of Service Members, Veterans & Their Families on April 20 & 21, 2022 from 8:00 - 12:00 Arizona/Pacific time each day. This will be the 12th time we’ve held this annual conference and the second (and hopefully last) time we will be fully virtual. I know many of us are feeling zoom fatigue, however I encourage you not to miss this event. We’ve put together a great line up of general sessions, breakout sessions and, new this year, solution sessions.

There is no cost to attend and you will have the opportunity to hear updates from Be Connected partners and leadership, increase knowledge about key topics and issues affecting our military, veteran and family population and join in solution sessions on topics such as transportation, housing, employment and more.

AZHiresVets Initiative

They have great traits. I’m a veteran myself, and I know that we have discipline, great leadership skills, we’re team workers.

-Col. (Ret.) Wanda Wright, Director of the Arizona Department of Veterans' Services

We’re very excited to share that we’re partnering on a new initiative with the Office of the Governor called AZHiresVets. In partnership with the Be Connected program, we’re working collaboratively with the Arizona Department of Administration and the Arizona Department of Veterans’ Services to double the number of veterans working in State of Arizona government agencies in the next three years.

There are approximately 3,200 state employees who have identified themselves as veterans.

Recently, Col. (Ret.) Wanda Wright, Director of the Arizona Department of Veterans’ Services, appeared on the Horizon program on Arizona PBS to share why veterans make excellent employees.

That’s exactly the message that Governor Ducey shared in announcing this program. “Veterans represent the best of our country and we want more of them working in state government,” said the Governor.

A new web page is available at https://hr.az.gov/veterans to provide personal video accounts from real veterans who transitioned from military service into civilian employment through the State of Arizona. Veterans can also find a tool that helps translate military skills into civilian terminology and recommends various jobs at the State that might be an excellent fit for that MRT.
